Anyone know of a good company to go with when getting your DBA? There are so many choices on the internet and also what is a reasonable price. Legalzoom was $99 and businessnameusa.com was $119 for my state of Kentucky of course.

Business License, Tax Id Number, DBA, Start Small Business Licenses actually is less expensive because they pay the government filings fees and the legal newspaper publishing fees as well as any other expense associated with filing a dba, getting a business license, a seller's permit, a wholesale license, incorpoting or forming an llc.
I went downtown and did it. Where I live it cost me $45 ($25 registration/$20 add in paper) and took me 15 minutes.
Yes, but it is not the same in all states. Some dbas are filed at the state level, others at the city level or county.
In addition, some require to be notorized in addition to being filed and published in a legal newspaper.
I'm in Mass too, and was told today that the state legislature says that if you register with the state, you don't have to register with the individual town or city you operate in. So I chose the state's registration for free, over my town's $40 DBA charge. Sometimes your bank that you have your business accounts with require you to also hold the DBA, but it's a bank by bank choice rather than the law.
I'm not saying this is correct as I heard it only today and haven't had a chance to double check it, but I thought it was interesting. I still might file just to cover my butt though. If anyone else from Mass knows more about it, give me a shout.

I was told by a little bird that I don't need to register with my town; I should, but it is not against the law not to do it, at least for now. As long as I hold a registration with the state I am fine, I was told .
When I registered with the state I obtained my DBA, if that make any sense

I just registered the other day. Got my confirmation e-mail that I was approved. Just curious however, did they send you a copy of the registration? If so, do they also send the DBA with it...or is the whole thing considered all in one?
