Default Printed Garment Care

We are a brick and mortar store. We sell a range of products including screen printed, plastisol heat set transfers and digital inkjet printed transfers using pigment based inks both light and dark garment transfers. We have collected a range of care and washing instructions for the various printing methods. They are very interesting and often contradictory. For each type, what is the best way to wash, dry and iron? (turn inside out or not, delicate cycle or not important, tuble dry, low heat, hang dry etc., bleach resistant or not,)

Our general rule of thumb is:

machine wash, warm or cold water, no bleach, delicate cycle, garment not turned inside out. Hang dry for best results but OK to tumble dry on permanent press settings. Iron from reverse side, low settings. It is best to avoid ironing the image area.

Comments or experience???

That sounds about right for most printed t-shirts.

What about fabric softener? Is that an agent that will increase fading? I have heard to avoid fabric softener the first wash as it accelarates fading? Any truth to this?

I am using pressing using IronAll at 375 for 16 secs on 50/50 Jerzee t's. I am getting some fading still and have been using the softener. I am going to try to run the same cycles without fabric softener to see what happens.

Any other suggestions would be great.

Kevin
