Default Custom Hand Painted T's

Does anyone know what media you would use to hand paint t-shirts (hand painting as in using a brush and paint). Would you seal the shirt? Thanks for the help.

You could use waterbased screenprinting ink and seal it with a heat press. Some people airbrush (not something I know anything about, sorry).

Check out Dharma Trading Company. Dharma Trading Co. Homepage They have loads of fabric paints and dyes. They are super great to work with and have a lot of how to's which explains very well how to do things and their tech staff is great for help.

My wife did some back in the day. You can get fabric paints at any hobby or craft store. I think you can even use acrylic if you seal it.

Brent,
Here's an excellent site for textile paint products. Heat -- either by iron, dryer or heat press would be used to seal the paint.Jacquard Products: Paints, Dyes & More for Textile Arts, Surface Design, Arts & Crafts

You can use any acrylic paint with a fabric medium added to it. Just heat seal the finished design & it is very durable. I do it all the time & it comes out great!

For two reasons
1. Did not want to, I enjoyed painting it myself!
2. Was only making one & why would I pay a screen printer a lot of money for one shirt when I could paint it myself for next to nothing?

Sure, those are great points, but aren't you afraid of being whacked in the kneecaps by the screen print mafia????

screen print mafia...that sounds like a neat idea for a t-shirt design.

brawling with the heat press cartel in a west side story kind of way

I can see it now.... midnight....a dark alley.... 2 groups hiding in the shadows... a squeegee is pulled from under a coat.... the sound of a teflon sheet breaks the silence... the gutters run red with plastisol... This would make a good movie. Call Spielburg.
