Question Need help in making a decision: t-shirt and printing process for heavy use

Hello,

I would just like to ask for some professional opinion on getting a T-shirt for my Scout Group.

Our requirements are as follows:
- Need a T-shirt mainly used when they will be playing games, etc. This would include games where the shirt will be covered with mud. So these shirts will be bleached several times a year.
- In the course of being worn, they will be exposed to some rubbing(eg. while crawling), etc.
-These T-shirts will also be used in a tropical(humid) environment and will have to be comfortable to wear while sweaty.
- These T-shirts will be used regularly, about 3 times a month, with an expected lifespan of 3-4 years.

So my questions are:
- What would you recommend as a good material to be worn, eg, 100% cotton or dry-fit?
- Which type of printing will be able to better last, silk screen or heat transfer(any variations)

We are looking at 350 pieces and we are not looking to limit quality by our budget.

Thanks for responses in advance.

I'd go with white 100% cotton shirts with screenprinting. That should be suitable and it's a good choice budget-wise as well.

I don't see how they would need to last 3-4 years, though. If they are for kids, won't they grow out of them in a year?

Dye sublimation would have its advantages in this situation, but overall screenprinting is probably the easiest (and also has the advantage of being pretty much the cheapest option since you're looking at buying a decent quantity).

The shirts are going to undergo a lot of wear and tear, so no matter which print method you go with if they're not well applied they're not going to last - so going with a good printer with a good reputation is definitely going to be more important than the lowest bid.

I was thinking that 100% poly might not hold up to bleaching as well as cotton.

I would say a gildan 100% cotton t-shirt sounds good for what you're describing.

Default Thx

hey, thanks to the feedback to my post.

As for the question of outgrowing the T-shirts, I am planning to get them a size bigger to solve the problem. This should allow the boys to continue wearing it even with their growth.

I will ask around for 100% cotton Ts with silkscreen for the printing.

Thx again!

Have you considered performance fabric?
Dye-sublimated prints will hold up well for this type of wear and tear for years without losing quality.
When it comes to bleaching - you may not need to: Vapor, for example, washes very well and it is stain, fungus and odour resistant. Also, for active type of wear features like moisture-wicking and temperature control should be an added bonus. Don't want to sound as a sales person, but I do know quite a few people in adventure sports and bush walking that are happy with it.
What colours are you planning to get? Something like ash-gray, terracotta or khaki might be better for activities you've described.

Good luck!
