Default What else is needed?? starting a business in new york

I'm in new york state and I obtained my dba as a sole proprieter yesterday along with my business checking account. I also just got a tax kit which has the 'application for registration as a sales tax vendor'. So my first question is, is this application for my tax id number? and second since i will be selling t shirts, hoodies, and track jackets to start off, what other permits do i need? I've been seeing posts which mention wholesale permits, resellers permits, as well as sellers permits, I'm a little lost now since I just thought i needed my dba and a tax form. So to sum it up wat else do i need

thanks for the help

A lot of information can be found on the official state websites:
NY STATE ONLINE PERMIT ASSISTANCE AND LICENSING

It usually breaks down exactly what you need for your business type.

Some places call it different things, but that sounds like the form you need to record and report your sales tax for the sales to customers within your state.

That also lets you buy wholesale from vendors and not pay sales tax (since the tax is charged to the end user of the product)

A federal "tax id" is an EIN number:
Employer ID Numbers (EINs)

Some wholesalers might ask for a tax ID number.

Different states and counties and businesses call the permits different things (which can cause confusion). Best to visit your state official website to get the info straight from the source

thanks for the breakdown! so if i dont have employees then i dont need an EIN and I would in turn use my ss# correct? but would this still affect me with wholesalers who require a tax id? also one more question, would I have to register as a manufacturer if i'm outsourcing the screen printing and embroidery for my items or am I cool just as a clothing retailer?

Yes, an EIN is only required if you have employees.

You'll be fine, you can use your SS # if your a sole proprietorship.

I'm not 100% positive, but I would just call yourself a clothing retailer (resale).

Are there taxes on clothing in NY?

yea there are but the thing im kind of lost on with that is our clothing tax is 4% but, on the paper that came with my tax kit it lists our standard 8% tax so i'm guessing once im fully registered and they see that its a clothing venture they will let me know what percentage to charge

Actually, if you have not done so yet, go to a shop in your area and buy a piece of clothing. How much sales tax did yo pay... That is how much sales tax you will pay to the state.
