I'm seeing after the lawer fees and the actual filing the cost is going to be $744 which is alot and it's going to hurt my pockets but, it's good to know that your name and logo are in the clear. So I wanted to kno how long did everyone wait before taking the leap if you have?
$744.00 are u nuts!!!!!!! United States Patent and Trademark Office Home Page do it online and if you have questions call the trademark office and bug them, ask them every question you want, it's their job to help you! i did it all in one hour. done finished. too bad the uspto takes forever to get them processed and researched! don't make it harder than it really is. these sites that "HELP" you get a trademark are [overcharging] people for prices....i seen one that charged over $200 some bucks to "search" for you. WTF!!!! goto the website, click trademark, click search trademarks, do a basic search. for t-shirts that's all you will really need. 99% of the time, it's it's not on there, it's yours. just read all the info there first. and you'll be cool. hell even if you get turned down. your out $275 haha if you get turned down and have an attorney and/or one of these "help you" trademark sites you around a grand and lose the uspto fee also...think out the box people............ i'm new i'm jayson........i sell alot of t shirts!

I think paying someone else to do all the work for you is pretty simple really
Paying a service to lodge your mark can make it easier to receive your mark. It might end up being a waste of money (i.e. you might have got it anyway), but it might save you a lot of money in the longterm (because they better understand the process of getting approved than we do).
Plus there's the fact that sometimes it's easier to just pay someone to do things for you and spend the time doing what you're good at, than it is to take on a whole new thing that you can just outsource to someone else (in this case, a lawyer).
744 is alot i admit but the lawyers take care of the thorough searches that will give me the peace of mind knowing that no one is coming after me down the line because of my company name. I did do the general search and i'm in the clear but after reading the uspto will keep your 325 if u get rejected i said spending 239 for a search to make sure i wont a least saves me some kind of money. I just believe u have to be willing to invest in your company even if it gets a little steep sometimes
rodney i have a question, would i need to also utilize them for filing or should i just use them for the search? because if all comes back well from the search then filing it should be simple and can also save me $180
I took the leap immediately. I thought about it, sought advice from folks here and did the application online at the USPTO site. Sent it off and it put a smile on my face. And I agree it takes a while, but at least I know they received it.
I'm just hoping for the "R" symbol, but in the mean time, I'm glad I got the Trademarking out of the way.
Not to say you should drop everything and do it right away, but everyone's different. I just did it because I wanted to.
this has been a question that i been going back and forth with for a few days, especially since i want to trademark my logo and name. and i pretty much came up with a simple answer, SBA. i have an appointment with them in the middle of march for one hour, and according to what i was told, the dude working for them was suspose to have been an attorney specializing in that area. In any case im going to go there and pic his brain appart about trademarking, copyrights, and corporate structure.
Hopefully he can leave me confident enough with the trademark process, in addition to my research, that i might be able to trademark my name and logo for the same price that i would have paid an attorney or service.

You *could* just use them for the search. That might be a nice way to save some costs.
If you're good at research, I'm sure you could do the trademark application since most of the instructions are on their website.
The "exhaustive" search is the part that seems pretty important not to miss, since that can get your trademark application bounced back pretty quick.
It's important to note, even if you use a service for both the search and the filing, there's still no guarantee you'll be granted a trademark. Many people receive an initial rejection (or non-final action) for one reason or another.
Luckily, there are people out there that specialize in that too

This is a discussion about How long before you made the trademark leap? that was posted in the General T-Shirt Selling Discussion section of the forums.
