You will also need a resale certificate if you want to be tax exempt. Go onto your state's website, ie, I went onto illinois department of revenue web site, filled out the form online and I had a tax id number fairly quickly.
I then registered with the county I live in. I believe the cost was $5.00 and included the home permit and business license. After turning in the paperwork with the county, I had to place an ad in the business classified and run it for three weeks.
You will need to check with your city, or village if you are going to be doing any screen printing, due to the chemicals used and washing out screens and letting chemicals run down the drain and into the sewers or your septic.
I went onto the counties web site to pull down their form. You will also want to go onto the web site of your local chamber of commerce. It's fairly inexpensive to become a member but very valuable because most have events like business after five mixers and other benefits for their members.
