I'm looking at importing some printed tee's from the USA to the UK on a regular basis. Does anyone have any experience of doing this?
I've brought over other things in smaller quantities but need to bring tee's over in 50's/100's. I've been qouted around $152.00 for 50 shirts to be shipped USPS and $393.00 for 100 shirts UPS.
I know I'll have the import tax and 17.5% VAT to add on.
Any alternative ways to ship? I have considered surface mail but need to get hold of stock within a few days ideally.
Many thanks in advance for any info. anyone can give!
Hi Justin, I am new to this site and was just wondering if you found out the answer to your question ? about Importing from USA to UK if you have can you please let me know thanks.
Never really got a decent answer to the question. The only option I could find was to use an importer that allowed part container loads and share the shipping costs but it's very difficult to maintain stock levels when you have to wait weeks and weeks for the delivery.
Still looking....maybe have to rent my own containers and offer shared import!
Do you know how much is to be added as the import taxe to your order of say 50 shirts? I've also been quoted about $150 for an order of about 70 pieces for P&P but I need to find out how much it would cost me in import charges...
Hi. Things I've imported myself from the states in recent times, have added as much as 40 percent onto the cost. You have to pay VAT, import duties and a customs processing fee.

Hi Justin,
I have only imported one parcel from the States and it was impounded until I paid the Import duty and VAT, so not a good starter really.
The prices you quote above seem crazy but normal Cheaper to ship two boxes of 50 than one box of 100
Normal If I ship two t-shirts here in the U.K in two seperate packs it's cheaper than sending them together in one
Crazy world we live in........
Phil

Commercial consignments of £18 or less are free from customs duty and import VAT. For example, goods purchased over the internet with an intrinsic value not exceeding £18, will not be charged any duty or VAT but this does not include alcohol, tobacco products, perfume or toilet waters, see paragraph 2.5, 2.6 and section 3.
Hiya i imported 60 shirts from thailand the postage and tshirt prices were paid (about $425 us 150 for the tees 275 post) tnt were the couriers, before i could get them through customs i needed a vat number or a eori number ( apply online at direct gov.com) tnt helped me with the eori number and paid all the processing fees sent me my tees and invoiced me for the costs £76 it would have been 5 days processing if i had the eori number sorted that took a week on its own, tnt told me the rate of duty depends on the price per item so i guess if your importing high fasion labels the duty goes up, hope this helps it! may be different from the states but the system is the same my only other advice would be, dont try and get around them (customs) i've heard they will keep your goods if they suspect your not being honest (but i'm sure we all are on here!)
