Default General advice on setup, inks and paper for newb

Hi there,
- Epson 1400 printer - Check!
- Heat press - Check!

Next step ink + paper...

Im looking to print some mouse mats and probably some t-shirts.

From what I have read I can use sublimation transfer paper? - with dye sub inks? in a css system to print onto the trans paper and press it on to the shirt/mouse mat (as long as they are polyester content).

I see a lot of shops selling filled css system with dye sub ink for like £230+ for 100ml of each color. That a lot of dosh.
I also heard you can get the cheaper chinease ink but may get poor results.

Is dye sub ink the way to go for printing mouse mats & t shirts (of light colors) -
Im not even sure what paper I need to use for dye sub - someone said that high quality laser paper is normally ok? - do I need to put a bit of grease-proof paper on top when I put the whole lot in the heat press?

And im guessing because it transfers only the ink I dont need to worry about cutting out around logos etc?..

Is an advantage of Dye sub it works on mugs and hard surfaces?

Can I print using the standard epson inks? - do I need dye sub - for mouse mats im guessing dye sub only? - for t shirts im guessing I could use transfers but they are not very pro.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance....
