Hello,
I want to know if anyone here is producing their own t-shirts (the actual blank t-shirt). The thing is I live in Mexico and the best t-shirts I've found are the ones from American Apparel, which I have to import, so a 3 dollar shirt ends up being more like an 8 dollar shirt for me.
Does anybody know what are the basic things you need to start producing your own garments?
okay, no habla español? here's a little of what i said above...
Hey, that's funny! Do you speak spanish? I sit here daily wondering what type of shirts they used in Mexico and where they got 'em, etc. The thing is, I used to live there and some of my favorite shirts were purchased at la fijuca and in el centro and from various other street vendors from the many islands I visisted. Believe it or not, they are all still in very good condition, years later and after several washings. I left there in 2005 and to date...I'm looking at the labels trying to get some contact information. Not to mention, they were so cheap on the retail end! I laugh to myself thinking they made the shirt for about fifty cents or less. The funny part is that everything is negotiable there when they see you're an American and that you are not willing to pay the initial price. No matter what the price, I tell them it's too high and we go from there. Then they started asking me how much I want to pay. I think I purchased some of them for as little as 2 dollars. My point is that they must be getting them super cheap...based on what they are selling them for. I thought for sure they were manufacturing them in Mexico. I lived in Cuernavaca but every weekend I traveled to other islands and cities: Acapulco, Teotihuacan, Taxco, Guadalajara, Morelia, Oaxaca, Tepoztlan, Tepalcinco, Jojutla and a few others. If I find any good sources in Mexico, I'll keep you posted. Until then, good luck to you!
Si si hablo español, soy de Mexico!
You're right, you can get very good quality t-shirts here for a very low price and you can even negotiate for lower prices. The problem is I am working with v-necks for the moment and there are not too many suppliers here, that is why I have been using American Apparel.
I want to produce my own t-shirts so it starts looking like a serious brand, manufacturing here is really cheap compared to the US so I think it can be pretty easy to start producing my own garments, I just don't know what i need to start.
ummm...i can't help you there. i wish i was there...i would try to connect w/one of the manufacturers. i got some v-necks when i was there. as a matter of fact i had 1 on the other day. the front is a picture of el museo del palacio de cortez. ¿en qué parte de México vive usted? i will have to go look in the laundry @ the label and send it over to you as soon as possible. perhaps, you can contact them if they are close to you. it's one of my favorite shirts.
