For you experienced screen printers out there, I had a few general questions in case I wanted to start my own t shirt line. What does it cost for a box of shirts? do they come in boxes of 20,50,100? How much do you spend on ink for a basic printer? and how often do you need to change the cartridges? Thank you ahead of time.

You should go to blankshirts.com and see their prices, I buy from them and since they have a warehouse near me, I get it in one or 2 days. They have no minimum, but I usually get the order and order the quantity I need plus 2 extras in case I mess one up, by the way any degreaser spay will take out plastisol ink , if you are screen printing, from garments. I did a job last week and somehow I got some ink on the back from a wet tee and I used my bike degreaser spray and got it out, I just put it in the washer , after curing the print, and all was well.
First you have to figure out what you want to do and how you want to do it so you can go about researching what's needed, then you can calculate a price. There is no set rule for doing any business, it's up to us as individuals to create our own way of doing what we do because we all have different strengths, weak areas, market availability, etc. When structuring your plan, don't plan it according to "the cheapest way to do it" because that's missing the point. It would be the cheapest way to do what? Make and sell T-shirts right? But to whom and for what purposes? Get your plan together so you can see what you need so you know what to look for so you can start rationalizing a price. The only way we can answer that question for you is to put alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll lllllllllllllllllll the info in this forum that is already on the web so you can pick and choose which would be just as confusing as trying to google it because you really don't know what you're going for yet to keep your eyes peeled for anything in particular.
i know there are lots of details that i could get into and thats what i was trying to avoid. so, here are my questions:
1. if you are an experienced screen printer, how much did you spend on your last box of 30(example number) XL white tees?
2. how much did you spend on your ink? i dont care what type of printer you have i just want to know what you spent.
thank you

i just want to know what the cost is for a box of 30 XL white tees. thats it. i appreciate the replies but could someone just please give me an example of what they normally pay? thx

T-shirt prices will depend on what brand of tee you are buying. You can order a white, Gildan t-shirt from a company like Alpha or Sanmar for as little as $1.50 per shirt. They have no minimums, but you'll still need to factor in shipping.
Screen printing doesn't use ink cartridges, you purchase containers of ink. Go to Silkscreeningsupplies.com to get an idea regarding pricing.
You can get a descent screen print setup for around $2,500. this would include a table-top press, screens, chemicals, flash dryer, etc. You could probably make about 20 - 30 shirts per hour on that budget. Not bad for a small start-up looking to keep their investment risks low.
If you've never screen printed before, I would recommend taking a class or two, and doing your research online before jumping it. It's a big learning curve, and it's very messy and time-consuming.
You may also want to consider having a local screen printing company print your designs for you. If you don't know what you're doing, your tees will likely look like crap.

Probably $45 - $60, plus shipping. Depends on who you buy from. We buy from Alpha (alphashirt.com), they run about $1.65 a piece (give or take..)
Thank you Daniel. ty ty ty .Thats just what i was looking for. I'll check out those links and do even more research. And don't worry, i'm not gonna jump into anything. haha

I understand your frustration and I see from a later post that you clicked on the site and browsed around, that's be best you can do. It's hard getting info because asking someone to explain in detail how their business works and what they pay is like asking them to get naked in the middle of the room in front of everybody. It's nothing personal against you, it's just something personal with them. You never know what type of deal they have worked out with who and what that same company is doing with someone else. In business that is gossip and can cause just as many problems as it causes in the lunch room at school. Besides that we don't want to give you pointless advice and waste your time sending you after something that may not be what you want but we don't know that. It's hard to bridge the gap between experienced and in-experienced because it takes experience to understand it. I don't mean to beat on your head but I understand where you're at and I'd hate for you to walk away from all the knowledge and business you could gain here from not knowing how to harness it, or worse, getting frustrated to the point of talking to people like they're stupid because you don't understand the answer they give you. Just take this as a heads up to just be patient and see as you learn.
much appreciated Marcus. i thought i was just asking a simple question but apparently its more complex than that. i didnt want to waste peoples time with a long drawn out paragraph about why im asking and what my plans are. go figure, apparently thats what people would have wanted hahaha. oh well, thx again for the help
