Default Sewing old designs to new shirts?

I have some favorite designs/images on old t-shirts I would like to cut out and sew onto new shirts. Is there a type of t-shirt fabric that is best-suited to embroidery, as far as its ability to handle the stitching and last for a long time?

Is stitching the old design to a new shirt likely to cause some comfort problems (i.e., irritation caused by stitching that rubs one's skin)? Would some type of soft liner be recommended?

Other concerns or considerations when trying to do something like this? Thanks for any advice! :-)

You would not need embroidery to accomplish this. Just an old fashion sewing machine.

Thanks, Joe. Any thoughts on what fabric stands up best to stitching something like this?

Not sure that matters too much. But I guess it would depend on the size of the cut-outs and where on the new shirts they are being sewn.

I would make sure the shirt and the fabric are of similar or the same composition. You wouldn't want to sew 100% cotton onto 100% polyester - shrinkage issue. Also, rather than sew it on, you could try mighty mend-it. Billy Mays says it works wonders. Seriously, I wouldn't go there.
