yes he did, but hes still bassicly the owner of bape. hes making just as much money but doing little work. a very smart move most company directors do when there buisness become this rich!
Hi universeclothing,
I think BAPE is overrated. If you're thinking about starting a clothing line because you were inspired by BAPE then please stop now. There's already enough rubbish flooding the street scene as it is. BAPE heads don't even have a sense of direction as to where their brand is headed, the only thing they think about is the dollar signs. I have not seen any of your designs so I will not target you directly, however I feel that if you're in this for the money then you may need to reconsider what you're doing as the street scene is short lived and it's better not to release something if all you're going to do is try and replicate a brand that has already died out.
I ain't hating on BAPE but their designs have been seriously played out. The main reason BAPE is still so successful is because it provides an outlet for celebrities and the wealthy to buy casual wear without looking like a cheapskate. You know it's true.
I wish to apologize in advance for being so frank about this.
Ok, now im sorry Iluvtees but i dont think i could disagree more on this one. You obviously dont know anything about bape. First off, nigo (bapes owner) was not in this for the money, he went to fashion editing at tokyo university and had been into clothing all his life, he created his first shop (NOWHERE) 20 years ago NOT in a attempt to make lots of money, but acctualy just a place for him and his friends to hang out, being a DJ himself, he knew alot of hip-hop, rappers who were performers. he was able to give 50 t-shirts out a week for free, which built him up credibility. a quote from his biography "I never thought bape would get so popular like it did"
as for his bapes designs. you must be tottaly oblivious if you cannot see what they do...
bape is a exspencive clothing brand just like louis vuitton. Im sorry if your not the sort of person who likes brands. but i for one am... guci, prada all these brands are the same.. its not about the designs its about the quantity...
bape only make 20 garments of each size.. so thats 100 t-shirts ever made...the whole point is that if your wearing one of his t-shirts its a limited edition shirt that you most likely wont ever meet anyone with the same shirt. Not only that but bapes garments are made in japan not in a indian sweat shop, with 100% heavyweight high quality fabric, the print never fades rubbs off or crack.
Yes celebrities wear bape, just like celebrities wear louis vuitton, prada, guci, D&G. Becuase its exspencive rare clothing... thats the point
the designs are simple.. ill admit, but bet a nice chunk of money that you couldnt re-create any designs, there simple... YET affective. nigos collabrated with some amazing artists like KAWS. there designs are simple to see so everyone knows your wearing bape..
i cant belive your oblivious to how brands work..
I am inspired by bape, its a fantastic company with some amazing clothes, im inspired by all high quality brands... and no. i wont stop.
DO NOT come on here talking like you know everything about a company you obviously know nothing about... sure your like lots others who see bape as a rip off company.. but hows about doing your research first
and saying street wears dying out?
bapes been going 20 years now and still going strong
bapes adapting to be a more casual smart clothing brand.
Hi I think you misread my post, if you read my post again you'll notice that I was not actually referring to BAPE itself but so called BAPE heads.
Let me clear things up a little, what I'm saying is that there are many emerging brands out there in the street scene with little sense of direction that have simply been created out of appreciation for BAPE(ie.there is a difference between appreciation for a brand and wanting to start your own brand).Nearly everyday an emerging brand closes operation(this is what I meant by shortlived).
And as for my knowledge of BAPE, I am indeed familiar with what they do.So everything you just said I already knew.I myself am also a fan of luxury brands,I'm just giving you an indication as to how many people are out there to create a brand like BAPE.
I must admit that BAPE was cleverly marketed and that they came up with some great designs, however their designs have been recycled since the late 90s(this is what I meant by played out).I am not sure what your situation is like over there with BAPE in the UK but it is definitely one of the weaker performing brands in the US(this is what I meant by died out).Nigo made a smart move in stepping down as president as this created an opportunity for the revival of the brand.I am already starting to see a change in the image of BAPE.
As for exclusitivity of BAPE products, you obviously have not lived in Hong Kong.
Nowadays if you're trying to start a brand you need a concept and sense of direction. The street scene is evolving and people are less likely to chop off an arm or a leg for a t-shirt or hoodie.
PS @universeclothing:Please proof read and spell check before making a post

Hey thomas ,nebie here
i was wondering if you knew what style of print does bape use?
Heat transfer, silk screen printing, water base screen printing, rubber printing?
This would really help me out to know.. Thank you
Your question should be "What kind of ink do BAPE use for screen printing?".
It's like any typical screen printed t-shirt, it's plastisol ink.
PS:You should read the Screen Printing forum and find out more about the differences in water-based and plastisol ink and not just do something because BAPE is doing it.

iluvtees you really don't have very good 'people skills' do you. It's FM077's first post and he/she was just asking a simple question. How do you know it's typical plastisol ink, it could be a lot of things.
It's easy to make fun of others and make comments regarding spelling mistakes etc, but this forum is designed to help people, not ridicule or bully!

It's plastisol ink from the look and feel of the print on BAPE t-shirts.Here's an example, notice the slight reflection of light off the print.
@Progeny:It's difficult to communicate with words on a forum without expression.I was not ridiculing, sorry if that came out the wrong way.
