I was hoping one of you here may be able to help me with a dilemma I have found myself facing. I found a couple of shirts online that I want to buy that are printed on American Apparel shirts.
I've tried doing some research on the interwebs for sizing help and have come up short. The site does not say what style the shirts are and from what I've gathered there is something called AA? and not really sure what else.
What I do know are that when I wear a medium in Gildan I like the shirts but I would also be happy somewhere between a large and medium, it is slightly small but I think a large may be slightly big.
I have one other American Apparel shirt that is a medium and it fits a lot smaller than the Gildan. It is barely acceptable to wear and it fits very short, but it is still at the point where it looks alright.
My question is, since merican Apparel shirts obviously fit somewhat smaller than most should I be getting a Large, or an Extra Large. I have a feeling I should be somewhere in the middle and it is driving me nuts! I'm a 33/34 waist, but that hasn't helped me at all on the AA website since their shirts do fit a little snug.
Most sites use the style 2001 for men, so that's probably the relevant style/size chart if you haven't found a chart.
As you've found, American Apparel is a slim fit shirt. The general advice is to move up a size if you like a looser cut. That gets trickier if you're between sizes. I'd only be speculating, but I think unless you like your clothes very loose, you probably want an L rather than an XL. American Apparel is smaller than brands like Gildan, but not a full size smaller. If you're between an M and an L in Gildan, it's even possible than an AA L would be just right.
American Apparel is a flattering cut, providing it's not worn absurdly tight (close to the body, yes - just not tight). A lot of us in this world have body image issues (myself included), so you might not feel comfortable wearing the shirt as a close fit. They do look good though, if you can bring yourself to wear it - might be worth it
CafePress has this neat feature where they show actual people (with their weight and height listed) wearing a specific size of t-shirt to help you decide which size would work for you.
Here's a listing for the American Apparel 2001 t-shirt in size small worn by someone who is 6 feet tall and 160lbs:
hey guys, i find the american apparel 2001 too long for me. any recommendations for shorter ones? what about alternative apparel? i checked measurements somewhere that the aa05 from alternative apparel measures 26 inches long in a small size. the 2001 on the other hand measures about 28 inches long. is this information correct? apparently, i've read posts saying that alternative apparel tees run longer, which is very confusing.

It depends on the style. The AA05 Alternative Apparel is shorter in length than the American Apparel 2001.
I'm female and skinny.
Typically I buy a size up in women's clothing from AA. I normally wear an extra small to a small, in AA I have to wear a small to a medium.
However, when buying a unisex AA tee, I buy two sizes down.
My other female friends also have this problem with AA. They need a size bigger in women's styles.
I think the same applies to the men's styles.
Hi
I saw someone else ask about american apparel sizing and that got me wondering the same thing. I would like one of their unisex sweatshirts. I am 150 pounds and 5'9 1/2. usually i wear mediums in teen stores.
Thanks!
