Default Hello- Help finding a good heavyweight high quality t-shirt?

Hello. I am not a mass producer of screen printed T-shirts or anything (yet. I'd be interested in doing it in the future; is it expensive? Hard to get going?) but am just looking for blank t-shirts for my own closet.

Because of the brand name (Hanes), the name "Beefy-T" and the phrase "The famous Beefy-T" I was lulled into buying one thinking it'd be the most awesomest shirt ever. When I received it it felt nice, the right thickness, and it felt high quality. I washed it once and it shrunk.. which I suppose is normal.. but it shrunk to one side. So it felt a bit twisted AND at the bottom it was sloping to one side.

It's still a nice shirt but I think buying it for brandname is the wrong reason especially when I can get other similar shirts for 40% less.

So what I am looking for is a high quality shirt that will last a good while and isn't prone to weird shrinkage. Another thing I hated about the Beefy-T was that the sleeves were WAY too short. I like long (like to my elbows)
sleeves that are baggy. I like shirts that run large.

I have a Gildan hoodie and two Gildan polos that are very nice so I'm thinking of going towards Gildan Ultra Cotton.

I'd like something preferably off this site/list

Wholesale Blank T-Shirts - Short Sleeve -JiffyShirts.com

I was thinking that for shirts I'll wear by themselves I'd get 6.1oz and things I might wear by themselves or with matching overshirts I'll get 5.4-5.5oz. Maybe even 50/50 in those 5.5ers. Are the ones with the lower weight still high quality/will last a long time?

Both of those are "relative", but you can research and find the answers by reading in the different sections of the forums here

There are a lot of factors that make a "great" t-shirt, and the things that one person likes may not be what you are looking for.

Your best bet would be to buy a few samples of different products, wash them, and see how YOU like them.

Many people here would say the Hanes Beefy is a better t-shirt than the Gildan. Some would say Gildan is better. It's all just opinion and preference. How you wash and wear the t-shirt will be different than how someone else (or your customer) washes and wears the t-shirt. So we may not all have the same bad experience with the Beefy tee or the other brands you try.

It sounds like you're looking for something pretty specific, and I'm not sure we could pick a t-shirt that would fit that spec for you as easily as you could by just trying a few.

You can read some recommendations in our wholesale blank t-shirt section of the forum here:

The Hanes brand is notorious for shrinking
I stay with the brands that i"ve sold for years.
Gildan or Port authorities

It is all up to the individual...I don't like Beefy T's....But some people will not wear anything but....get some samples....and see the difference for yourself.

I have been using the Anvil 6.1 oz for the past year and like them. They do not shrink even in hot water.

Personally have found that Gilden holds up the best both with screen printing and DTG printing and is a good quality in weight. There are different weights so ask for a sample of each from your supplier.
