Default Appropriate size for t-shirts that shrink

Hi, the other day I bought a few shirts from American Apparel. I loved how they had a variety of different sizes, especially for small people. Smallest is an XXS. I normally buy XS but the XXS looked more fitting when I tried them on. The XS was a bit loose and it didn't tug on my body like the XXS ones did.

I heard the clothes from that store have a tendency to shrink when you wash them. Even if you wash in cold and air dry them, which worries me. I'm not sure how much 8% is, but there's a sticker on each of my shirts that says they'll shrink at 8%. Is that a lot?

I love the shirts I bought. I want to keep them, but I'm not sure how long they'll last before they become too small for me to wear.

So would it be best to buy a size larger in that store? Like if I get an XS will it shrink down a size to XXS?
