Default lightening t-shirt color

Hello all. I have a couple of t-shirts that I really like, but would like to just lighten up the color a little. Bleach is one obvious way to do that but working with bleach can be problematic in that it is pretty much guess work and seems to be hard on the fabric. Is there some other way to lighten them up a little?

Thanks.

Another vote for the sun here. It's a crappy way of doing it, but it's a hard thing to do well really.
