Some of you are probably sick of me bringing this up yet again, but one of my markets is grandma's who are, likely, 55 to 70 yrs. of age. Pride shirts for Grandmas.
I keep hearing that American Apparel is "the best", but their shirts simply run too small and fitted. I just received two samples in the mail today and I got my hopes up (Mother's Day is just around the corner) and the Large is tight on me and I'm a Size 8/Medium normally. Now I'm down again.
Please -- I am so desperate to find a shirt that is quality and a Grandma would feel comfortable wearing.

I'd try samples of the Gildan ladies shirts. They're feminine rather than downright frumpy (like a men's shirt would be), but whereas something like Bella or AA have a fitted youth cut... they don't. Most of the time I wouldn't consider that a good thing, but in the case of this demographic I imagine they'd prefer the Gildan ladies shirts (they also run significantly larger... specifically they're actually men's sizes with a feminized cut).

Well, I contacted Basic Threads and this is what she said:
Unfortunately our t-shirts are not of a style elder women wear. The cut is not roomy. I don't know who you should call. There used to be, and maybe still is a company in LA "Frank L Robinson" they had basic T's. Hope that is helpful, Wendy Scott Basic Threads
Now I'm waiting for Hanes Samples to arrive. If anyone has further ideas, please let me know.
It seems like the blank tee industry would start to see that there are markets that they're not supplying.

Is there a market demand for them to supply to? Do older women not wear t-shirts because there aren't suitable options available, or are there no suitable options because they don't wear t-shirts?
I always find it odd to see older people*, especially women, in t-shirts. The transition from men's underwear to women's outwear takes a while I suppose.
*I hate that term, but I can't think of a better one

i think older women wear your basic t-shirts, t-dresses etc. as basics casual wear.
As for a little more fashion forward.... is not really a matter of being roomy cuts, its more of the actual STYLE of the garment, that hides some of the well.... you know, like a little longer short sleeve type thing.

I also don't usually see older ladies (65+) in a t-shirt - they are almost always dressed to the nines in a blouse and skirt.
But I think this is going to change. My mom always wears a t-shirt and jeans, I'm pretty sure that when she gets "old" she'll be wearing the same thing. I think as the baby boomers get older this style is going to be more common for that age group.
