Default Re: Royal Apparel

as a screen printer, I can tell you that Royal is decent, but, and this is just my experience (I have handled tens of thousands of shirts, but usually only for about two seconds at a time), it seems like their sizing (particularly XL-XXXL) is a bit more irregular than normal. I think that a 3% difference is allowed within a size, or something along those lines, but I seem to encounter a slightly larger range when dealing with Royal shirts.

Please keep in mind that it's not a huge difference, just noticeable when printing thousands of shirts at a time, and that I'm just one person, whose sense might be biased or who might have just had a few questionable experiences. Just throwing in my two cents.

That's an awful lot of disclaimers... I don't think you need all of them (I count nine)

It's useful input, thanks. You might have only handled them a few seconds at a time, but cumulatively you'd've spent more time with them than most

Have you noticed the same thing with American Apparel? Threadless' users claim to have a lot of problems with AA size variations, and I've often wondered whether it's a major problem or just that the problem has been given a major voice.

haha, true true, I just don't want to dissuade someone by coming off as more sure of my troubles with Royal than I actually am.

I haven't noticed the same problem with American Apparel - I've run into far less sizing problems with them. I use Americans myself, and they're some of my favorite shirts. Maybe I just haven't had any really bad experiences with them, but it does seem to me that their naysayers are a more vocal group than most.

I personally order from American, Alternative and Royal. From my experience, all three companies have great product. My issues have been with Customer Service and getting the orders correct. Again, American and Alternative have been good with Customer Service but not so with Royal. So far I've place 3 orders and each one have taken approx. 5 to 6 days longer to leave thier warehouse than the other two companies, this in turn means its 5 to 6 days before I get the shirts. I've also received the wrong color than what I ordered, the PO was correct. I'm still waiting, after 3 weeks and 4 phone calls to get the correct color shirts delivered. I also very much dislike that after placing your online order you do not get a copy of the invoice right away, the sales person has to email it to you (this rarely happens). This is just my experience, if you choose them hopefully your experience will be better. Good Luck. Check into Next Level Apparel, they seem to have the same or similar items as Royal.

I am having the exact same problem with them. Not good customer service and my order was incorrect. Still waiting from a response back about my incorrect pricing... it has been 5 days. In comparison, I had a sizing issue with Alternative Apparel on one of my orders and they were super helpful and overnighted my new size at no cost to me. Big difference in customer service.

It is only fair that I should update my earlier post.

I have since dealt with them a few more times and have have a much better experience with them. Now that they are all moved into their new place service has been fast.

My customers love their organic line, I just wish it was a tad less expensive for smaller orders.

Thumbs down Re: anyone had experience dealing with Royal Apparel

I’ve had recent dealings with Royal Apparel in an attempt to get a refund on several t-shirts I ordered wholesale. Their return policy clearly indicates that they DO permit returns on items that are unaltered. However they do require that the customer contact them in advance to receive a return authorization number. As such I did just that. To my surprise I was told that the return could not be approved because the items I received were within the specifications (length, width, weight) detailed through the website. Never mind the fact that the items were not what I expected.
Needless to say I was very pissed because nowhere within their return policy does it explicitly state that return authorizations would only be approved for defective or irregular items which is basically what the representative was telling me. Their return policy as applied, is in fact a no return policy. In addition, the representative’s attitude really sucked. He was attitudinal and well as cavalier… almost even dismissive.
Subsequent to that unpleasant phone conversation, I went back to the website to review their policy and confirmed that nowhere was it stated that the item had to be defective or irregular in order to have a return authorized. Below is the actual return policy:
All returns must be reported within five (5) business days from receipt of merchandise. A written authorization number must be obtained for all returns. There is a 20% restocking fee in addition to freight charges for all returned merchandise with authorization number. All unmarked packages / cartons will be refused. No altered merchandise will be accepted (ie: screen printed, embroidered, relabeled, washed, dyed, embellished, etc.). Please inspect all goods prior to decorating merchandise. Only goods that have not been altered in any way will be considered for return. Samples and discontinued are non-returnable.
Now this is the “kicker.” In reviewing their return policy I happened to read their product disclaimer which states among other things “…Royal Apparel cannot guarantee variances in size, construction, color and shade of stock inventor.…“ So basically am I to understand that as a consumer I should have no expectations with regards to the consistency and quality of their product, per the disclaimer. Nor should I have any expectation that I upon making a good-faith purchase, will be able to return any items should I find them not to my liking because unless the product is either defective or irregular as they define it, you simply won’t be granted a return authorization approval. That is the most poignant case of double-talk that I’ve happened to come across recently. To sum the story up, I simply contact my credit card company to dispute the charge under the pretense that the company is not honoring it’s return policy as it is expressly written.
I am certain that I will get satisfaction in this matter.
“Caveat emptor”… Buyer Beware

I will say that you need to promptly inspect your shirts from them because they don't have a long grace period for returning. Otherwise, I am really, really happy with them now. I am actually working on making them my primary shirt supplier.
