I am looking for some quality substitutes for the following shirts:
For men - a substitute for the Alstyle 1701.
For women - a substitute for the American Apparel 2102.
I'm just starting out and not looking to break the bank, but at the same time, I'm not looking for the customers to say, "what the heck did I just order?", when it shows up or after it has been washed a bunch.
So I am hoping you all can steer me in the direction of finding a less expensive (not cheap) version of these 2 styles of shirt.
I have searched the forums and both seem to be highly regarded, but I'm hoping there are some actual users out there that have found acceptable substitutes for these 2 shirts, with similar quality/fit/feel, but less costly price tag.
Thanks in advance for any information you might have.
Re: Best Substitute for American Apparel and Alstyle
Man, Alstyle is the way to go at that price. You can't find a really high quality shirt for less than that price point. Maybe Tultex. I think that ePacific Sports and JSApparel have a lower end shirt, but you better like black...or white. The Alstyle 5562 is a good sub. for the women's 2102.

I suggest buying a blank from the following places...
Tultex
Pima
Anvil Fashion fit
Apparel Whiz
Gildan soft style
Any suggestion as to what specific product# from any of the above companies will match up closely with the 1701 from Alstyle or the 2102 from American Apparel?
Re: Best Substitute for American Apparel and Alstyle
+1 Anvil Fashion fit.
it's half the price of AA, it might be a bit thinner, yet when you compare them side by side very hard to tell a difference. I actually think the Anvil feels a bit softer...
Only set back is the limited amount of colors.
Re: Best Substitute for American Apparel and Alstyle
^^ I liked the feel of the Anvil Fashion fit, but when we printed white discharge on black shirts, it discharged to a cream color. Not very white at all. When we printed straight discharge on them, it was very dark tan, almost brown.

Thanks for the info, discharge printing can be hard to control. Fortunately I just do regular screen printing.
