Looking for quality blank tees for a streetwear brand
Here's the deal...I want to get a streetwear brand off the ground and am looking for different blank tee brands. I won't use Gildan, FOTL, Hanes, Anvil, Jerzees, etc because the quality just isn't there. I've used American Apparel for different projects and although I like the softness, the slim cut is not popular in most of the streetwear market. I've been hearing that some streetwear brands use AAA and Pro Club, but am not sure of their quality/softness and fit. Feedback is appreciated for these two brands.
So does anyone know what blank tees brands like The Hundreds, Reason, Cosby, Upper Playground, Freshjive, Plain Gravy, 10 Deep, Crooks & Castles, Supreme, Tank Theory, etc use?? I realize some brands have their own cut and sew apparel, but for those that don't...is their a "standard" blank tee brand used in the streetwear market???
Re: Looking for quality blank tees for a streetwear brand
The problem is that quality is subjective. It would be more helpful if you could give us some specifics of what you want in a shirt.
FYI, ProClubs are not soft or thin, but they are high quality in my opinion. They are thick, heavyweight tees. But some people don't think thick, heavyweight is quality. Others don't think thin, lightweight is quality.

I think the Alstyle (AAA) style number 1701 is nice shirt. It's ringspun cotton, so it's soft, and the fit is nice.
The proclub tees aren't as soft, but they are a durable t-shirt.

I believe all the brands you listed have their own cut and sew apparel. There isn't a "standard" blank tee brand since each company has their own idea of how they want their tees to feel.
I would say to go ahead and get samples from AAA and Proclub and see which you think will fit best for your brand. I've worn both brands of blank tee and I would (and did) pick the Alstyle 1701 for my printed shirts. The AAA also has a nice tearaway tag that makes it easy to relabel with your own brand label.
Re: Looking for quality blank tees for a streetwear brand
Concerning quality...I'm looking for the softness of American Apparel, with a slightly larger cut and weight. I keep hearing about AAA and the streetwear market, but since I'm not familiar with the brand, I wanted to get some feedback about them as well as any other tees that might be a good fit.
What I'm not looking for is the rough feeling megabrands like Hanes, Gildan, FOTL, etc or the "hip-hop" fitting tees with the sleeves down to your wrists.

Also check out M & O Knits, style 5500 (available wholesale at georgiatees.com). It is a nice (affordable), ringspun cotton t-shirt that is cut larger than American Apparel and is heavier weight.

Thanks for the help people!
Interesting that streetwear is still mainly baggy fit T-s in the US - nearly all fitted in the UK now it seems. Can't beat the AAA for construction but it isn't the softest feel is it (?) - if you can manage 150 (qty) per style per colour what about Continental - they'll make for you with a really soft fit but get a XXL version of their NO3 T to get the size right - I beleive they're opening up in the US so carriage shouldn't be a problem for you. If you need a contact wth them try - tell him Paul from October gave you his email - he'll help out if he can,
Cheers.

Re: Looking for quality blank tees for a streetwear brand
Thanks for the info RODNEY!
OCTOBER I wouldn't say that U.S. streetwear is necessarily all about "baggy" fit apparel, but American Apparel is too lightweight and tight-fitting for most peoples tastes in this mkt. I love the softness of AA's tees, but am looking for more of a standard, not slim fit in my blanks.
So AAA are not that soft? I haven't ordered any samples yet and am not familiar with the brand.
Re: Looking for quality blank tees for a streetwear brand
Rodney...I was looking at the AAA website and noticed the 1701 and 1301...you mentioned the 1701 is soft...does it have a more relaxed fit than the American Apparel Jersey tee?
Also, do you know anything about the 1301, it seems like it's just a heavier s/s tee? Is it as soft as the 1701?

Yes, the 1701 has a more relaxed fit that than the American Apparel Jersey tees.

I haven't tried the 1301, but looking at the description, it doesn't say ringspun cotton, so I don't think it will be as soft as the 1701 or American Apparel.
If you want a heavier weight SOFT t-shirt (heavier than 5.5 ounces), you should look at the Jerzees Zt (18z). I know you mentioned no Jerzees above, but this tshirt isn't like the rest of their line. It's generously sized and very soft.
Really though, you should be hooking up with a wholesaler or screen printer and buying a few samples of all these styles so you can do a "taste test"
Re: Looking for quality blank tees for a streetwear brand
I'm basically in the same boat as the original poster.
However I'd like my shirts to have a softer feel, I like the fact that the 1701 is made from ringspun cotton, which I've been told is fairly soft, however I like the fit of the 5301 better, but the 5301 doesn't mention ringspun. Has anyone ever felt the 5301 or does anyone know off hand if its a "soft" t-shirt?

The 5301 is 4.3 oz ringspun. So not as heavy as the 1701 and it is a nice soft shirt. IMHO.
