Discuss the wholesale blanks industry: Factory direct, custom labels. You can also use this forum to locate a wide variety of wholesale products including t-shirts, hoodies, mousepads, coffee mugs and other imprintable products.
Hi everyone. I am new here. I have been reading that a few of you are looking for blank maternity tshirts. I have been looking into this prospect for some time now. I have a US manufacturer that I might use to do this. I have some questions to ask what you are all looking for to see what I should make.
1.What style neck? - crew, vneck?
2.What sleeve length? - short, sleeveless, long?
3.What colors? - white, black, pink, blue, others?
4.What fabric material? - cotton/spandex, cotton?
5.What fabric type? - 1x1 rib, 2x1 rib, jersey, interlock?
6.What fabric weight? - 6oz? more/less?
7.How much more would you pay for US made down to the thread as opposed to say made in India or Pakistan?
8.What is your price range per piece for maternity shirts?
9.What sizes do you want? - Is ONE size okay or maybe S/M and L/XL or do you need S, M, L, and XL or even plus? (my manufacturer has minimums per size and color so I am trying to produce less sizes)
10.What kind of labels on the shirts are you looking for? Is tagless screen print with a "Maternity" generic brand and our RN number okay? Or can we have our own brand obvious on the shirt?
Thank you for your input! This will greatly help me in figuring out what to produce! I am currently selling nursing wear online (add .com to my user name), but I really want to start producing my own label and to fill this much needed niche in the wholesale tshirt market.

1.What style neck? - crew, vneck? When pregnant.. I prefered Vneck
2.What sleeve length? - short, sleeveless, long? Would depend on the season/place you live..
3.What colors? - white, black, pink, blue, others? All colors because everyone likes to wear different colors..
4.What fabric material? - cotton/spandex, cotton? Cotton
5.What fabric type? - 1x1 rib, 2x1 rib, jersey, interlock?
6.What fabric weight? - 6oz? more/less? Something soft.. no matter the weight..
7.How much more would you pay for US made down to the thread as opposed to say made in India or Pakistan?
8.What is your price range per piece for maternity shirts? Would depend on the quality.. I guess wholesale.. less than 5-6$ Since regular tees are usually around 2$ - the one thing that was horrible about buying maternity clothes was they cost so much more.. so instead of buying 5 new shirts.. I could only get 2.. I think if possible having lower costs, would increase sales generously... because the "brand" name maternity tshirts were 40-50$
9.What sizes do you want? - Is ONE size okay or maybe S/M and L/XL or do you need S, M, L, and XL or even plus? (my manufacturer has minimums per size and color so I am trying to produce less sizes) I think S,M,L,XL - because so many people are different sizes.. a S/M may be too small or too large for one or the other size people..
10.What kind of labels on the shirts are you looking for? Is tagless screen print with a "Maternity" generic brand and our RN number okay? Or can we have our own brand obvious on the shirt?I think plain is better.. tagless would be great - When you are pregnant.. THAT should be the focus.. your belly, not any type of label

I replied in the italicize bold print above.. hope this helps..
Thank you for the input. I appreciate the time you took to post! I think much of it is just personal preference, and I will have to go with what I think the majority would want and is somewhat economical. I have two small children, so I do have experience with maternity wear. My favorite shirt this past pregnancy was a 100% cotton 1x1 rib shirt from Kohl's that was surprisingly soft and stretchy and had "Oh Baby" on the front in rhinestuds. It was not the best quality shirt I have seen, but it was decent.
I just wanted to let those that read this know that any company that is small is not going to be able to sell Made in the USA wholesale maternity tshirts for $5 and make a profit as that is about the cost to have them made. That is why there is no one out there selling them! Have any of you noticed that very few of the maternity tshirt companies that sell printed or embellished shirts wholesale out blank versions of their shirts (let alone at a reasonable price)? There is just too much money to be made by adding something to the shirts at a cost to them of $.50 or less.
I am probably going to go with a higher end US manufacturer (using good quality combed cotton and such). I have imported items from overseas and duties and shipping costs can be absolutely horrible. I think that these costs can actually make foreign made items in smaller quantities cost more than made in the USA ones.

Personally I think ribbed fabric is the only sensible option for maternity tees (but I didn't respond above because I'm male, so I don't really have a personal preference ). It's preferable for women's t-shirts in general I think, but seems like a must for maternity.

That's pretty much the point of the duties: to discourage importing.

Despite being a guy, Lewis has a good point. Ribbed (or jersey with some added lycra or spandex) is the best for maternity tees. If you buy a maternity tee, you want it be able to keep wearing it as you continue to, uh, expand.

I am still looking for maternity shirts of all styles.

Amanda, I'm responding for Beyond in the event that she doesn't see this. The last I heard she was in the process of having the shirts manufactured abroad and I believe she was waiting for delivery. I think she said that she would post something when they were available for sale.
OOOPS, erroneous post due to old and confused brain. Actually it is maae10 that is having maternity tees manufactured abroad.

No I have not yet done this. I saw the prices for the new LAT Sportswear maternity tees, and I knew that I could not compete really with their pricing at this time.
It is still something I am considering for the future.

Where did you see those I have not seen any LAT Sportwear maternity tees?
Thanks
Amanda

"LAT Sportswear carries a maternity tee, but it only comes in 3 colors, black, pink, and white.
White s-xl 6.50, xl 7.50, xxl 8.15
Colors s-xl 7.85, xl 8.75, xxl 9.40
Better pricing on orders of 1doz or more of the same color and size."

I was in my local screenprinting shop today and they had ordered an LAT shirt as a sample to show me and it was ok. Just a basic shirt with no shape or style. I would consider using them if they had more colors. I think I might call them up and tell them that there is a demand for maternity blanks and I'll tell them to search this forum so they can see all the folks looking for the shirts. Maybe they'll get the idea and produce so more colors. Who knows, they might be willing to work with us.

Yeah jersey is not that great of a fabric for maternity. Is it basically a big tshirt? I think I would make them in 1x1 baby rib. Anyways what styles and colors are you looking for? I guess I would not think that white is that ideal for maternity blank shirts. I was even thinking of not even bothering with white. What do you think?

I personally like white for what I am doing. I also like pink and blue and some jewel tones.
White does not bother me now that i am pregnant.

I spoke with the rep at one of the show's and she said it wasn't just an oversized T-shirt, but cut specifically to fit a pregnant woman. Fitting up top, but wider below.
i am interested in purchasing several maternity tees. i do have a few questions... colors? i am looking for black and white. i am looking for longer shirts (that is a complaint i have heard from many women - i have no kids myself.) and you said $5 a shirt? sizes s-xl?
