Anybody Else Have To Jump Through Hoops For SanMar?
Anybody Else Have To Jump Through Hoops For SanMar?
I am in the beginning stages of starting up my business, so I am setting up accounts with t shirt wholesalers. I have my resale license and have had no problem setting up an account with Broder and Alstyle. Today I tried setting up an account with San Mar, and received two emails within minutes of each other. The first one stating that at this time they will not be able to sell to me. The second email from another sales rep said that I need to send my resales license. I replied to both of the emails questioning the conflicting information and received a reply back stating that I need to send them receipts of my screen printing equipment and supplies to prove that I am indeed a screenprinter.
Has anybody else had to jump through hoops like this?
Re: Anybody Else Have To Jump Through Hoops For SanMar?
I don't really consider this 'jumping through hoops'...they just want to make sure they are selling to professional or those in the business and not someone wanting to get wholesale pricing for personal use. When I got my account I called and asked what I needed...they told me...I provided it and got account within hours. Sounds like a new rep may not have handled this right
Re: Anybody Else Have To Jump Through Hoops For SanMar?
Its not that much to ask from them. A valid vndors license stating you are in business that has something to do with apparel sales or decorating. I have been at TSC Apparel and I have seen people picking up shirts and loading them into their Plumbing Van or Joes Landscaping Truck.
Re: Anybody Else Have To Jump Through Hoops For SanMar?
Thank you SanMar.Yes, its extra work for you but it does limit those in unrelated businesses from purchasing garments. I used to screen print for a pool. They provided shirts/sweatshirts that were in sealed Alpha boxes. That didn't make me feel too good about Alpha.
Re: Anybody Else Have To Jump Through Hoops For SanMar?
My policy is to provide most product to be printed.
I had 2 customers come in this week with product for me to print that they purchased directly from my suppliers.
Like Jennifer said, it makes you question this supplier.
As a long time printer, its good to know San Mar takes the time to qualify who they will open an account for.
It may seem like a little extra work now, but you will appreciate it later on, knowing not just anyone can get wholesale pricing for blank apparrel
Re: Anybody Else Have To Jump Through Hoops For SanMar?
I can honestly say that SanMar has been the most difficult to get an account set up with. However, like others have mentioned....I really appreciate the fact that they take such efforts to weed through all those who don't need to be buying from them. Just a little frustrating when you need something from them and it takes a week to get an account. I purchased a used embroidery machine and I had to wait til I got ownership transferred from Hirsch and then had to send SanMar a copy of my proof of ownership.....know where you're coming from.

Sanmar is worth the extra hoop to jump through. IMO.
Their prices are good and their customer service is the best I've seen so far.
They have never been out of stock on anything I needed. I have been extremely happy ordering from them.

Exactly, thank you SanMar! If everyone could buy from them it would make our business even harder!

Hopefully they are picking them up for someone else. I have a friend of mine pick up my shirts at SanMar for me all the time and he's always in his work truck.

It happens too many times at TSC, florist and plumbers, and landscapers picking up to be for someone else. Plus I have Karate Schools, Landscapers wanting to bring in their own items that they tell me they have an account at TSC Apparel and can get them cheaper. I say that's fine I just doubled my screen print costs. I print plenty of contract work but not for people really NOT in the business.
Re: Anybody Else Have To Jump Through Hoops For SanMar?
I didn't have to do anything extra with Sanmar, I just applied online and that was it; but then I've been in printing for well over a decade and I have a nice website.
As for the other issue, this is why I build my profit into the printing with a flat fee per garment.
