Default Monag Label "This garment is not intended for sleepwear"

Just received my first order of infant wear from Monag. Was impressed with the fabric, but the sewn in tag, states "This garment is not intended for sleepwear." How can I possibly offer onesies, gowns and more for babies? I'm assuming it has to do with fire retardant fabric treatment for sleepwear, but do all of the manufacturers, Rabbit Skins, Uncer the Nile and more have the same wording. I think this label would generate phone calls from my clients....Any helpful facts would be welcomed.

Thanks!

Ok I just checked all of my different Monag garments, and they all have this on the label. Rabbit skins are marked the same as well. I am thinking it is because, onesies are not typically made as sleepwear, but more of a daytime clothing item. I have the apples and oranges brand also but that one is not marked the same.

I really think it has to do with the fact that onesies are not sold as sleepwear. I had never noticed this on their before, but it has had no effect what so ever on my business. I am not sure on the gowns, as I dont sell them.

Thanks BobbieLee,

I called Monag and it is a requirement due to the fact that infant/children sleepwear is supposed to be flame retardant. Babies sleep in all of these different clothing items. If we replace with our own label, how do I find exactly what should be on the label? I've done a Google search, but haven't found the information yet.

What information do you include on your label to satisfy the requirements? I know that Under the Nile has no mention of this, either. I ordered some knit caps from a supplier and there is no care label of any kind in the caps. Before we start printing, I want to make certain we are in compliance.

I'll try to call a few more suppliers.

Hmmm I myself do not relabel my garments, but I would think that if you are relabeling them, you would need to include all of the original information. I am pretty sure that the information on the label is there, because it is following labeling laws. Here is a link to the FTC relabeling site Threading Your Way Through the Labeling Requirements Under the Textile and Wool Acts. I am not sure if it covers childrens clothing, but I would give it a read and see if you can find the information there.

I did a search in the FTC document for infants, sleepwear and more and nothing popped up. I agree that the label form Montag reads that way because it is required. If that's the case, then many of the other companies don't comply or maybe they haven't been cited. I'll keep looking. Since I'll have labels printed, I would like to get it right. Today I received some 100% linen items from an embroidery wholesaler. There are no lables in any of the pillow cases, bibs, baby caps, bonnets and so on. A couple have a sticker saying 100% linen-China and that's it. I've seen these for sale in shops, so I guess many people don't know to comply or don't. Gets too complicated....I tend to look closely and sometimes I gain knowledge I wish I didn't know.

You've been very helpful...Thanks, again
