American Apparel...Direct or Thru different wholesaler?
I know there are other similar threads, so I apologize...but they didn't really answer the question!!
American Apparel is trying to make me jump through hoops that I don't want to jump through if I don't have to! So if anyone out there orders through AA direct...is it truly cheaper to go that route rather than ordering AA products thru another distributor?
I'm looking to purchase between 150-200 of the 2001 model. Any input would be appreciated!

Chances are that any wholesaler will make you jump through some hoops before selling to you. They want to be sure you are really a business and not just going to buy stuff for yourself and friends.
Re: American Apparel...Direct or Thru different wholesaler?
I tried to open an account with AA before getting a reseller's permit number. All I had was my EIN. I ended up going to Alpha Shirts/Broder Brothers, they didn't require anything at all, and they carry AA shirts. Ordering with them is easy as pie, and they will give me case pricing just for asking for it via a phone order, even a little $30 order. I can pick up bc they are local, and they have locations all across the USA.

Yes, I've found it much easier and cheaper (because of the lack of minimums) to order American Apparel through one of their distributors. I prefer TSCApparel.com because they do relabeling.
Re: American Apparel...Direct or Thru different wholesaler?
I'm fairly new at this but I had no problem getting set up with American Apparel. We'd already gotten our state and city business licenses as well as federal EIN so all I had to do was fill in a few blanks and get my email back.
We've also ordered without a hitch but I do plan on shopping around some distributors for price breaks on orders that don't hit that magic dozen mark.
What specifically where you having an issue with that made you feel you needed to jump through hoops?

I am also a customer of AA and had no problems opening the account or ordering from them. As far as pricing, depending on how much you are ordering, it is a lot of times cheaper to go through a distributor.

I also go through tscapparel.com as I can bundle the basic American Apparel such as 2001 with my Gildan order. I haven't noticed a price difference.
If you are not set on made in US American Apparel, then you might want to consider other blanks that are similar to AA. We had no problems setting up an account, but that was two years ago and we met with the sales rep in person onsite.
Just an FYI, that many of the distributors have been audited and fined for not carrying resale permits on file and making sure they are current.
I've been in business long enough to know it is standard procedure to fax (yes the only time I use my fax) in your information yearly usually. In California, the supplier can then verifiy you are current online.
