Ladies' shirts have to be cut differently from mens' in order to really look good. I have found the American Apparel shirts to be very attractive and flattering, but they're pretty expensive. Can anyone tell me some other brands that make nice, soft, fitted ladies' shirts, or warn me about bad brands? (I know, they're expensive for a reason, but maybe you have some magic secret.)
Alternative Apparel will be easier to get in Perth though (through the US, but I don't know of any US suppliers of Bella who ship internationally, with any degree of ease).

The classic girly jersey tee is not too expensive. I mean, if you re-sell a shirt with your " Design" on it for $ 15. Paying wholesale for the "aa" shirt its not expensive at all....i dont think

I'm going to be printing through PrintMojo, so their price is for the t-shirt plus printing. It's not unreasonable, it's just that it's nearly $3 more than the men's t-shirts I'm thinking of using (Gildan) and I have a feeling I'll mostly be selling to girls because my designs are towards the 'cute' end of the scale

Yes, I totally agree- like I said in my original post, they're more expensive for a reason, and they look much better, so it's definitely worth it.
I'm not sure how to explain my drawings- I draw comics with cute characters and my designs tend to be that kind of thing- cupcakes, flowers, clouds etc. My boyfriend would wear it but I think my market will tend to be female for the most part. That's also not relevant. It's still accurate to describe them as "pretty expensive", and reasonable to consider other options (which, as it happens, are also pretty expensive) that could potentially have a better margin.

Many t-shirt stores (but not all) charge an extra fee for ladies' cut t-shirts -- because they cost more to buy wholesale, so they pass the cost on to the customers. We charge $2 extra for ladies' cut which is fairly standard; some charge nothing more, some charge +$1, some charg +$3.
Now, as far as the style of ladies' cut shirts go, we've tried a handful. We did not like the Bella shirts because they were tiny - at least a full one and a half sizes smaller than a normal t-shirt! We also tried the Anvil ladies' cut shirts which we didn't care for either, because they weren't very feminine at all.
We haven't had a chance to try American Apparel yet.
What we finally settled on is the Hanes Silver SL00 'Relaxed Fit' Ladies' Cut. Has a nice feminine look, a little stretchy to be more comfortable, a nice scoop neck, shorter sleeves, etc.
Bella is awesome, but not whole sale to designers only to distributors who set up to buy ALOT. I spoke with them on the phone. I do not want to pay a middleman. So far I am only finding wholesalers that are too fitted, i.e. small or too "boxy" a fit or too heavy a cotton. My market is the female, so I will keep reading and looking!
I've been looking at Anvil. Haven't ordered anything yet but next week I'll be talking to my screener and will have prices, etc. I like them because the Ts and tanks have the same fabric weight and color options (not all are available in the tank).
If you're interested I can let you know what I find out.
i just came across Article 1 from the list of vendors, will call them to get a sample. My last sample came from Alstyle, nice finish detail, cotton is nice, not what I am looking for, but again the large looks really small! I think they must grow smaller women in CA!!! too fun
