Discuss the wholesale blanks industry: Factory direct, custom labels. You can also use this forum to locate a wide variety of wholesale products including t-shirts, hoodies, mousepads, coffee mugs and other imprintable products.
I am new to the forum and excite about making a bunch of new friends. I look forward to learning a lot about printing and selling T-Shirts over the next few years.
Starting off I need the Forums help to find out; How can I purchase large numbers of T-Shirts Wholesale that have Velcro sewn on them?
I am not sure if it is cheaper to buy plain T-Shirts then hire someone to sew the Velcro on (double handling). Or find a vendor who will sew the Velcro on first and then sell the T-Shirt to me (single handling).
If it is better to buy plain T-Shirts and have the Velcro sewn on later, is there a Vendor or Company who specializes in this type of high volume sewing?
Domestic or Foreign any names of vendors or ideas on the best way to get Velcro sewn onto a large number of T-Shirts would be very appreciated.
Re: Supplier Needed! T-Shirts With Velcro Sewn On.
Velcro sewn on where? If you have some specialized need for velcro sewn on a particular area of the shirt, you probably won't find shirts already made that way. That leaves you with figuring out the best way to have velcro added to purchased shirts. Give us more details and someone might have an answer for you.
Re: Supplier Needed! T-Shirts With Velcro Sewn On.
It'll probably be alot cheaper to DIY
than to get someone to sew it on for you.
Besides, I cant imagine how much it would cost in terms of labour for that kind of job.
Re: Supplier Needed! T-Shirts With Velcro Sewn On.
You might try the fuseable velcro and iron it on your shirts.
I do a lot of sewing and velcro is a pain to machine sew on anything. My mother has arthritis and buttons are hard for her to handle. I started sewing velcro in place of the buttons.
Machine sewing the soft side of the velcro works fine, but when you try to sew the rough side it breaks your thread. I ended up sewing the rough side by hand. It's very hard to get a needle through it too. You definitely need to use a thimble or something hard to push the needle through.
I recently found fusable fabric velcro and I will never go back to sewing it on again!
Good luck...and let us know what you are using the velcro for.

Are you sure you're using the right kind of needle and/or thread? I have no problems sewing the hook side of hook and loop onto things...?

Re: Supplier Needed! T-Shirts With Velcro Sewn On.
I've tried different needles for my machine and even waxed the thread to try and keep it from breaking. Tried different threads also, but still get breakage. I've also tried different "hand sewing" needles. Still not much luck.
What do you use? Any suggestions that would make it easier to sew on velcro would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Supplier Needed! T-Shirts With Velcro Sewn On.
I use the Gutterman 100% polyester threads - I have found cheaper brands of thread tend to break, even when just doing normal sewing.
You might also want to check that the thread tension on your machine isn't too tight - that can stress the thread and cause it to snap.
You also want a fairly sharp needle. As I said, I've never had a problem just with my regular needles, but perhaps it might be worth trying a leather needle or something if you are having problems? How many layers of fabric are you attaching the tape to? What brand of touch tape are you using?

Funtimesx, Thank you for the help.
Longshot, I didn't mean to highjack your question, but I'm grateful that you asked.
I haven't tried Gutterman, but I will give it a try. I usually use the generic cotton or polyester thread. I'm sewing through the front of shirts where the buttons are located...so it would be 2 pieces of material plus the interfacing in between. On my sewing machine I've tried sharps and ballpoint needles both with the same problem. I've tried changing the tension, but that didn't help either.

No problem Terrayty. There is a lot of good info being shared.
I am just looking at sewing the soft side of the Velcro on the T-Shirt. So I will not have any problem doing that. Doing it myself seems to be the short term answer.
