I have been using Gildan Ultra Cotton T shirts which are pretty cheap and pretty good quality, I think. Is there a big difference between Gildan and American Apparel that makes AA more used by businesses, or is Gildan just about equal? American Apparel just seems really expensive for a shirt.
Thanks

So, for my new website, I'm going to be selling my new T-shirts with pre-made artwork, do you think it's worth it to use AA, they just seem really expensive, is their a wholesale system or something like that?

As long as you have a resale number and are in the printing - garment decorating business you can get a wholesale account with them which has much better pricing than what you see retail. Also there are other distributors that carry their clothing also.

It depends on what you want out of your brand. What caliber do you want to be at? Are you selling art that you want people to take seriously on a brand that you want to be selling for the next 10 years or more? Are you just selling funny sayings and trying to make a quick buck? If you want to charge $25 or higher per shirt, the general public has begun to know AA as a higher caliber t and will associate that with your brand. If you just want to sell your ts for $10 to $20, I'd say the Gildan would do just fine. It's all in what you want your brand to become.

American apparel is a better printing shirt, with smooth, soft feel and no pilling. Guildan is good, but the cottons have a lot of lint on the surface, which can create problems with white inks on black or dark shirts......my experience. It's all in what your customer wants to spend, plus they're American made.
After reading that article, I think if any of my customers wants higher-end shirts, I'll go with Alternative Apparel or someone else, but NOT AMerican Apparel.
wow that AA guy is a grease bag, I dont want to be assosciated with that, thanks for the link. That guy is gonna lose alot of buisness, thats just down right creepy and messed up.
I've known about this for a long time. I thought when the company was purchased, he would be forced out because of this behavior. There was a 60 minutes special that showed his office with old nudie mags framed on the walls. That's creepy. At least do that stuff in the basement, that's what I do..uh mean DON'T.

It's been out there for a long time. Notice the dates of some of the things taking place.
It hasn't hurt business yet.
When you have a good product, it kind of seems like your immune to certain things.
It is a public company, and I'm sure there are just as many people at the heads of public companies that are much worse in their private lives, but they have great products.
There are lots of people responsible for the success of AA, and I'm not about to delve into the lives of the people of every company that I buy goods from to see if they pass my moral standards. If I did that, I probably would be naked and homeless.
