I don't think you'll find Hanes Beefy T's for under $3. They are close to the most expensive on the market. I found some recently on sale for $2.90 (white).
It's a great shirt and holds its color really well. I do a lot of Navy Blue shirts and I have some that are over a year old now and still look good.
In Hanes Beefy Tee you might find that price with a wholesale account and minimum 6 doz. order in white only. By the dozen expect to pay $2.50 or so for white again with a wholesale account.
For Gildans you should expect to pay about $1.75 or so.
The ones in the thread linked above offer "case" pricing even if you don't buy a case. You have to signup to get their pricing information, but you can usually buy white and heathered Gildans for less than that.
