Default Recommendations for women's tank tops??

I have a job that I'm trying to find a couple of good ladie's tank tops for. It's for a very popular local fitness club that want's to have promotional shirts for employees and to sell to customers. They liked the Gildan 2200 for the men but most of what I've found so far is either spaghetti strapped, or ribbed. I've heard that ribbed shirts don't hold screen printing as well and are more likely to fall apart quicker. Has anyone done a job like this before and what ladie's tank can you recommend that is good quality and around $4 or less my cost? I want this job to be done right since it could lead to a lot of further prospects.

I recently used anvil and american apparel tanks for a 1 color job, the design was distressed and it looked good, even with the ribbing!

The ribbed tanks are pretty good for screen printing.

Either Anvil or Gildan makes a plain ladies tank, I used some for a job a couple of months back.

We create mostly women's apparel and have found that active wear clothing for women, girls, men - Bella Apparel is the most requested- especially among fashion/fitness type businesses. If you need plus sizes or relaxed fit, Hanes Silver for Her is a nice brand too.

I've just heard that the outcome with screen printing isn't as good with ribbed tees as it is with non-ribbed styles. That the design doesn't hold up as well. Which style of ribbed have you used and to your knowledge did it hold up ok after the customer recieved them??

I have seen lots of screen printing done on ribbed tees. It's a bit more challenging because of the stretchiness, but a good screen printer can overcome that.

I've used the bella ribbed and the American apparel ribbed and they both worked fine.

Hi Tim

I had screen printing done for someone on the ribbed tank top from a screen printer I know. The print came out good. I don't have a lot of knowledge about screen printing but the printer said that he had mixed something with the color to make it more elastic so that the print stays together and good on the ribbing of the tank top. Also he had to put a little extra color.

Just me, but I thought the Anvil 815 was really chintzy. Very thin. Whereas the Gildan tank (2200L I think it was) is heavier. Both of these are not clingy or rib-type. More "modest" tanks tops, I guess you could say.

I just finished a 3 color job on some black Bella 1080 1X1 rib tanks for a tanning salon here in town. The ink printed and stretched better than I had hoped. I used WM Plastics Brite White for base and highlights. Used reduced Union inks for the other two colors. I just made sure that I got a great cure on the inks.

1X1 rib is much easier to deal with than 1X2 rib. I have, in the past, printed and cured the design then heat pressed it to achieve the necessary stretchability.

You are saying you printed heat transfers or comml, plastisol transfers on the stretchy bella's?

I knew a gal who did put comml transfers on them and sometimes when someone stretched them out to put them on over their head the designs ripped.

Is that a risk?

No, I directly screen printed on them.

My first round of women's tanks (AA - 2x1) that I screened on was a big mistake... The 2x1 ribbing is terrible... I ate the cost on that batch. Unfortunately, this was one of those 'live n' learn' situations not knowing or realizing this would be an issue. Shouldn't a printer let you know if there is gonna be issues with a certain shirt style regarding something like this?
