Default Buying t-shirts

I got my first order from broder yesterday. I pleased. They came fast, ordered on friday.

Anyway, I was wondering how do you guys order your tees for your on brand of t-shirt?

A) Do you buy one brand?
B) Do you buy what ever is cheaper at that time?
C) Or do you buy a tee for this and a tee for that? EX. FOTL for men and Anvil for women.

This came to mind when I saw that there are more 6.1 oz tees than I thought.

I am in the process of setting up my business for promotions. I am ordering sampes of the different brands (FOTL, Hanes & Gildan) and see which ones I feel are the best, then stick with one brand to keep it consistent.

I thought about that too. How do you get samples? Just ask or are you just going to order a few of each?

Just buying them. I found APPAREL AND BLANK SHIRTS WHOLESALE to have some pretty good prices. I am also looking into getting my Tax ID and see if other vendors have better pricing.

when I started this little business I bought 5 leading brands of tees. I figured out which one I liked and then had my wife and daughter look at the 5 and left the room (always smart when woman are making up their minds. yes I did say that..) anyway they picked the same one I did.. that was a first.. Gildan 6.1 once... I now bounce between Gildan and port and company from SanMar.

No. Price plays a part, but it's a smaller one. That's going to depend on what you're doing - with retail it's easy to pass the extra $1-3 a shirt onto the customer. If you're printing promo shirts, that could mean the difference between getting the contract and not. I don't think there's anything wrong with buying whatever's cheapest, it just may not be the appropriate call for what you're doing.

I definitely do a bit of this - sometimes the preferred brand just doesn't do what you want. I like to have size / quality / cut / feel, etc. consistency, but at the same time if you need a certain product you need a certain product.

Well put.
I should have put this up top. What size do you buy mostly? For what I sell, I think l-2xl will be about average. I don't think I will see a lot os smalls and not too many bigger than 2x. I'm not sure if I should stock smalls and 3x and up.

Now do you guys buy adult only or a real womens cut tee for the ladies? I was think of getting some that are just made for women or just get some adult tess. What do you ladies think?

I find that wholesale companies do offer better pricing to you if you have set up a business with the tax i.d. number. There are also companies out there that will only work with the businesses that have the tax i.d.s.

You'll probably know your market best, since the sizes that you order will relate to who you're selling to. But here are some threads that will help out with sizing statistics:

T Shirt Size Statistics
Sizes and their % in your totals
the most popular shirt sizes

Default Re: Buying t-shirts

Hi all,
Anyone who's read my posts know i'm another newbie, anyway since buying my press i've placed two orders for t-shirts, the first order was for about 40 shirts, it arrived within 2 days, happy with that but it was one shirt short, no problem, told the company and they sent another. Second order was for 60 shirts and this time it was 5 shirts short, is this kind of thing expected? I understand once in a while there will be shorts due to one reason or another but didn't expect it every time, just thought i'd ask if anyone else gets this and how often?
Also I wanted to ask if anyone can direct me to somewhere that sells hoodies which are cheap, i've ordered a couple but my cost was over $10 and I thought that was a bit steep.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Tony

I wouldn't say it's the norm, but it does happen fairly often. Some suppliers are better than others when it comes to accuracy.

$10 for a hoodie seems to be fairly average.

I purchased my first two orders from blankshirts.com the last order as mentioned 5 shirts were missing, no reply from them as yet so probably have to wait until monday but I can't really afford to have a shortage every time I order so I am looking for another wholesaler that's more reliable. I'm happy with the tees i've got so far apart from the Hanes (some strange sizes there and some pin holes) so have opted for the gildan, jerzees and port authority this second time around, they all seem excellent. It's just a shame it came up so short, 5 out of 60 isn't good. Any suggestions for alternative wholesalers welcome. I also feel sure there is someone out there selling hoodies for less than $10 or am I comparing this price too closely with the tees as i'm just starting? What should the end cost of a hoodie be? $25+?

Tony
