Default Magenta Outline Around Prints

We have had a T-Jet Blazer Express for over a year now. There has been an ongoing problem since day 1 but its off and on. Sometimes when printing there is a VERY VERY light magenta specs/line on the boarder of the print, kinda like a very light stroke. It even happens on prints that do not have any color in them, just black. Like I said, this problem is off and on and persists through different print heads so I am thinking there is some generic problem with a generic solution that I am not aware of. I have no idea what makes it stop but it will eventually go away, however we are on an order that is a very detailed black only print on white shirts and the magenta is just unacceptable because its visible from a foot away. Any ideas what the problem is and how to fix it?

Your black is probably made up of CMY&K, often with a minority black component so magenta being there is quite normal.
When this happens do a nozzle check, if a nozzle is partially blocked it can squirt out sideways. Otherwise I would suspect head alignment error.

The other thing to consider is how far the platen is to the bottom of the print head. See if you can raise it just a little bit without letting the head strike the garment to see if that helps. If the garment is too far down from the print head, you will start to see overspray.

Best wishes with the printer,

Mark

Hey Mark, thanks a lot for the advice. The platen can be moved up if need be, we try not to move it too far up because of the danger of pretreat on the print head but I will give this is a shot. It also looks like (based on nozzle checks) that it may be a slightly clogged print head on the magenta side. I will try cleaning that as well as moving the platen up. Thanks guys for your help!

John,

Just do the nozzle cleaning first so you can eliminate one variable at a time. If that does not work once you get a good nozzle check, then try adjusting the height of the platen. Otherwise, you might not know which one was really the problem. You are correct to have concerns with head strikes, but you don't want the platen too far down.
