This can be caused when the print head carriage movement is obstructed and the carriage cannot get to the home sensor in the capping station. Make sure there is nothing obstructing it and that your carriage rails are clean and oiled.
Another thing that can cause it if the error is happening everytime time is the ribbon cable from the interconnect board to the main board is going bad or is bad. Very rare though.

lazographics, Good points, one other reason is that the linear encoder strip could just be dirty.
Wipe it off with diluted Windex on a saturated piece of cloth.
In most cases this error generally means a loose connection of the ribbon cable going from the interconnect board (picture below) to the main board (picture below).
Billy...Gina here...question? what are you using to oil the rails with? syring, tubing, ? and is there special kind of oil we need to use?
