folks, weird effect we experienced this morning. we tried to print white for the first time today and it came out all grey.

we put the cardridges out and reprimed all of em after doing one headcleaning as usual. the cardridge next to black some grey came out instead of the white.

after that it all went back to bright white.

question: how can we prevent sth like this to happen? we usually put some drops of cleaning fluid on capping station over night.. maybe this caused it?

Did you do a head cleaning before you started printing for the day?

I've had some days where my old jumbo2 would print green instead of black. I never figured out why it did it but after a few head cleanings it stopped.

yup. we are always performing 1-2 headcleaning before we start printing.

seems like black is somehow getting into the white cartdridge??

Can happen if the white ink levels drop below the black ink, then the black ink (or other colours) my syphon up the white ink.

zhenjie is right. It is caused by the viscosity differences between the colored ink and the white ink. Your white ink bottles should have a spacer under them to raise them slightly higher that CMYK bottles, and they should also have about 1 oz. more ink in them than the CMYK bottles. Make sure your white ink leves stay higher than the CMYK levels. I have to watch this regularly because I use more white than any other color in my printing. Be sure of these things and your white ink should not get contaminated by any of the other colors.

Another suggestion is that your white has settled. Try agitating your white ink and do a power clean to clear the settled ink. You wanna make sure that the white ink in your white lines are not clear and should look white. If its clear than it will print a greyish color. Make sure and agitate your white ink everyday. Even what you have in your inventory. If the white settles for to long it will turn very thick, like icing, at the bottom and will clog the head if its put into your bulk system. Even the bottles/cartridges in you printer need to be agitated.
