Default 'Worn out look' printing

I am having trouble printing out some 'worn out or washed out' looking images on my t-jet 2 WITHOUT the white underbase showing up on portions where it should be more gradient.

You may want to generate your own underbase so that you get exacly what you want. Sometimes postscript has problems with these, especially when trying to create an underbase for them

Hope this helps!

From Justin in our Support Department:

To create a more vintage or worn look you will want to create your own underbase for the image or print a lighter underbase.

One way to do this is to create a black and white background version of your image (high quality jpeg files will work fine for this).

Import both into FastArtist and place them on your work area.
Than select the first option in the underbase section.
This will allow you to generate your own underbase with finer control.
Follow the on screen prompts and it will guide you through most of the Underbase Wizard
Try setting the Underbase strength to: 30
Light areas between: 20-30
Dark Areas between 0-3
Click next.
Select "Do not print a white highlight"
Click Finish.

Print. There are a few variations of adjusting the Underbase strength and the strength of the dark areas that will help.

To adjust your print mode open FastArtist.
Than select File > FastRIP Setup > Underbase Setup.
Make sure 'select a different print mode for underbase' is checked.
Than click the box with the ellipses [...]
This will pull up your underbase/priming print modes.
Select either the Cartoon/Photo 720 Underbase print mode and attempt a print.
This should yield a much lighter print than as if you were using a 1440 print mode for the underbase.

Thanks Justin. Sorry for the late response, though. I did try that technique and it worked. I actually wanted more of a distressed look as well and ended buying a program that allowed me to do different variations of distress levels and appearance. I did incorporate your technique with the program and the results are pretty good. Thanks for the help.

Can you share what program you got? (or PM) I would be doing some distressed printing as well.

It's called Mister Retro. I have Vol. 3. There are different types of distress looks. I just played around a bit to find the right combination from Photoshop to my printer.

Good luck!
