I recently had to re-initialize my express as my counters had maxed out. Which happens because of the epson firmware. However, I now need to allow the printer to see the "roll paper". However, I have been at this for several hours yesterday, and thought to post this question to the forum. Is there an exact placement on where the paper needs to be. I have done what I was told. The head comes out like it's supposed to doesn't reject or get a service error. Comes straight forward & just says "Reload Paper".
Put the full sheet of paper as close against the capping staion side as you can get, you will have to adjust the height until the print head sees the paper and than goes into the "Ready" mode, it could take a few tries. "Good Luck"

Thanks, Dan.
However, when the bed goes back I rest the paper as close to the machine as possible. It's bascially touching the back wall. The bed moves forward, the light comes on & flashes. It moves a bit flashes again. Then it seems to be okay, moves forward then I get the reload paper message still. Before I didn't even get that. I would get the a service error. So I know I am close I just don't know what else to do? Any other thoughts.
Again, if you get the "Reload" error it is not ok, you will have to play with the height of the paper untill the print head reads it correctly and the printer than goes into "Ready" and than you will have to load the correct settings.

I know this is going to sound stupid. However, I am so crazy from this, words can't express. I believe this is the first time I have been actually frustrated w/ my Express. For the width, you do mean the 17" across way, correct? I was only using an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper that I cut down to make it fit in order to get it close to the capping station. please confirm, and I will try this in the morning.
Yeah! I finally got to the ready mode. I was missing a simple key element in the process. Once I am at the ready mode, is there anything else, that I need to do? Is is possible for you to send me the next step.
You should see a blue light by the print head shortly after turning the printer on, as the printer is looking for a paper edge to set itself to.
If you observe this, you should be able to set the edge and get the printer working.
Place the sheet 1" away from the side, and the top at the center of the scissors picture.
You will then need to check the printer set-up on the LCD panel and make sure the default settings are entered. If you do not, and turn the printer off, you will need to repeat the paper set-up process.
You can change the options on the LCD panel to the correct one. Using the up/down arrows, move to the correct one. Then hit the right arrow so an asterisk appears by the new choice. That means it is saved. Push the left arrow to go back and the up/down arrow to move to the next option.
Here are the settings:
Platen Gap - *STD
Page Line - *OFF
INTERFACE - *Auto
Code Page - *PC437
PPR Margin - *Default
PPR Size CHK - *OFF
PPR ALGN CHK - *OFF
Time Out - *OFF
Cutter Adj - Skip this one
Refresh MRGN - *OFF
SHEET Size CK - *OFF
Auto NZL CK - *OFF
Auto Cleaning - *OFF
Quiet Cut - *OFF
INIT Settings - Skip this one, it resets all settings.
From the Ready screen on the printer, press the menu button, the screen will say 'Printer Setup'. Hit the menu button again, then hit the down arrow until the display reads PPR SIZE CHK, go in and make sure the display reads * OFF (make sure there is an asterisk in front
of the OFF. If there is not, you can scroll between on and off with the up and down keys, when it says OFF without and asterisk, you can
hit the menu button to select.
Once the screen reads '* OFF' then you push the left arrow button to back out. The setting will need to be the same for PPR ALIGN CHK and SHEET SIZE CK (both located in the PRINTER SETUP menu).
I stress, the asterisk is next to whichever setting is currently selected, so make sure it is in the screen with the off setting. Dan "HAPPY PRINTING
