Default Too much black ink for canvas

While printing on canvas the black ink is so heavy that much of it doesn't soak in, leaving a glossy look when the rest is flat. If I use a gloss treatment over the whole print, it's not noticeable, but sometimes I want to keep the image flat/matte. I'm using canvas made for paint jets and was told this wouldn't happen. It is much better than the canvas I was buying from Micheal's, but still a problem.

My question is, is there anyway to turn down just the black ink without effecting the other inks? I don't want to resort to lightening the dark areas with software. Thanks.

I am not sure with your rip for blazer, but in my rip on my HM1 I have slider barsin the ink configuration settings that I can set the % of each color I want to print. I would look to see if you have these settings in your rip. I print mine at 720 x 720 vivid darker on my HM1 as far as the type setting, again dont know if you have this setting either Hope this helps.

I know this is an old post but were you able to reduce the black ink flow.

I am having this same issue printing on canvas. The black ink pools and runs. Even printing at 360 cartoon there is too much black ink.

Do you also have the sliders where you can lower the percentage of ink ? If so I would go in that setting in your ink configurations on your rip and lower it maybe 20% on the black ink and see if that helps. Not sure if your rip has this setting or not, but mine has the sliders as well as the dpi settings. If you do that is what I would try.

I don't see any way to set the ink flow by color just the MAX Ink Flow

I am using the EZ RIP 4.07

Black is normally printed as CMYK and the best way is to change the maxink setting, go to the job properties (double click on it) and then go to the Maxink tab and click override and then change the maximum ink level and hard cap to the same.
This wont effect any light colors, only areas where the C+M+Y+K is greate than this value.

Once you get a value that works, go to the Printers - Manage print modes, copy the print mode you were using and give it a new name (eg Canvas) and edit it and change the max ink setting in the same way as above.

Then any time you need to print on canvas you can use this new print mode.

Best regards

-David

definitely reduce the ink flow. Also be sure to properly treat/condition the canvas PRE and POST printing because they generally have a coating that limits ink absorption.

Contact your equipment provider for the best process...but again, definitely reduce the ink flow.
