I have the illumapress heat press. I just busted out some plastisol transfers bought from starline pacific.

They first ones came out great, but I noticed after a couple tries that it felt like there was still ink left on the transfer paper after doing a hot peel.

I let the last transfer heat longer and the paper felt "clean" afterward.
is having the heat press down longer the first thing I should have tried? or would adjusting pressure or temp have been better with the same result?

I washed the tees once and put in dryer. one of the earlier transfers seemed like it was lifting a bit after the dryer, like I could pick it off with my fingernail.

just want to get my next practice sessions better before my 1st order of softball tees is due.
thanks for your help!!! :):)

Regular screen printing requires a white underbase for each side totaling 7 screens which is significant setup. I've never used plastisol transfers but wonder whether they might work better cost-wise than conventional screen printing. Also, don't know anything about these transfers so what would be things to watch out for?
Any thoughts?

We are using a hotronix press and logos made from F&M. Everything we have pressed the logos on is peeling and cracking off. We have not been in this business very long, but are trying very hard to make quality apparel products for our customers. Everything is returning with peels and cracks. We just completed an order on poly-mesh and followed the instructions. Peeled off after one wash. We have to reorder and redo everything for the basketball team. But we dont know what the issue is! Then we pressed onto sweatshirts and SAME problem!! It is faded/cracked and peeling! We have tried adjusting pressure, temp, etc.. and nothing is working!! What are we doing wrong?? We have several more large orders due soon and we cannot seem to correct what we have already done! Is it the material that F&M is using? Or is it us? I thought this would be a great way to make extra cash in this tough economic time; but we are loosing money left and right; not to mention loosing my mind over this!! Thanx for any replies!!

I definitely under quoted this job and am eating about ($200) but I think it is worth it to have learned alot.. AND this is forum is AWESOME..

I ended up having a friend whos son is awesome with drawing/art and he is doing my artwork for in corel/illustrator for me $25 a design..

After talking to several companies (some more helpful and friendly then others) I went with Howard Sports Graphics... Monique was GREAT.. very helpful and answered all my questions (through email which is great for me since I do embroidery and my machine is loud which makes it difficult to talk on the phone and work)

Cant really compare pricies to others, but I think I got a pretty good deal.

Pressed the first one front and back.. Pressed PERFECT the first time.. very easy to peel.. I am really excited about the other orders I am receiving tomorrow..

I've been screen printing for awhile but haven't done shirts with different last names on the back. Recently I have thought this was something I should start getting into (after losing 2 jobs cause I couldn't). I was thinking that a heat transfer press might be a good solution but wasn't sure about a few things so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have no experience with heat transfers...

Since I could make my own plastisol transfers, would this be a good way to go?
Is there a big difference between the plastisol images and those done with an inkjet printer?
From what I've read, with the inkjet paper, you have to trim around the image so the paper doesn't show - do you have to do the same with plastisol images?
How does the durability of plastisol compair to inkjet images?

I'm not sure if using heat transfers is the right solution so I am open to other suggestions as well.

Thanks,

So I received my first order of plastisol tranfers and the samples of others. So I first stated practicing with the samples to make sure I get the process down. Direction said preheat3-4 sec press at firm for 8-10 sec @ 375 to 400f. So away I went. My temp was at 385. First few small transfer (same design) went ok. Small detail areas were missing ink. Small lines and dots. Moved onto some others designs. After pressing some more, I decided to pick at the transfers. I was able to scrap off the ink with my finger nail (small detail, lines dots) with little pressure. Is this common with plastisol tranfers? If it was that easy to pick off, how are they suppose to hold up to washing. I try some more later. Got to fix a few things on my press. Bought it used. Mighty Max 15*15. Mfg dat 7/94 I'll post more later
I've heard that mixing the photo plus the glitter requires a type of litho print that must have a heat press application.
Still, I feel like I saw a million of these glittery photo transfers in the 70s and 80s that were iron-on. Anyone know a vendor who can do this?
