trying to find a quality t-shirt to embroider on. Any brands I should look into?
I am starting a home embroidery business, and I am trying to find a quality T-shirt to embroidered. I want something that will fit nicely. I don't want a regular tshirt, rather I would like something that looks nice and fits well. I was thinking of something with some stretch. I have looked at Anvil and Bella, and I am hoping that I can get some advice on what would be a good brand or brands to look into. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Hi Lisa,
Welcome to the forum & good luck to you. I agree with Wanda, Bella shirts have become my favorite in terms of fit. I haven't tried the other brand yet. But, I can say that since I've been a member of the forum...ALL of the information I've learned/gathered from the threads & posts...thus far, nothing I've found has been incorrect or wrong.

Just some thoughts that I am throwing out.
1. If you have a home business, do you have a license so you can buy wholesale?
2. Do you have a lot of experience with embroidery? The stretchier the shirt the more learning curve. Hooping becomes more challenging.
3. Do you digitize your own designs because t-shirts, due to their weight, stretchiness and stuff, is something that should be taken into consideration.
I am just throwing these things out. I don't know your experience or anything, I am just throwing them out.

We recently did a batch of District Threads shirts we got from Sanmar that were very nice. Womens/Juniors cut and they were a nice soft feel to them...

I personally like the heavier weight t-shirts, 5.6 oz or heavier for embroidery. The heavier weight tshirts take embroidery much better than the lighter weight tshirts. Screen printing can use the lighter weight shirts. If the design has some density to it, then the lighter weight tshirts may not take the embroidery design as well and it may make the shirt look droopy. It's best if you purchase a variety of styles/weight and sources of shirts and do some testing, as I think you'll be able to make recommendations to your future customers. That's what I did when I started my home-based business. Good luck on your business.

As someone new to embroidery, you will quickly discover that finding a t-shirt that you like and fits nicely, is the easy part.
The real difficulties come in learning what it takes to embroider that t-shirt. Quality of design, a good stabilizer, proper hooping, correct machine thread tensions, having a good knowledge of embroidery basics and understanding what is or is not suitable for stitching on a light knit ..... will all be much more important to the success of your business than how the t-shirt fits.
Stitching t-shirts well can be challenging and frustrating, so take your time and learn all you can before you start selling.

I personally am not fond of district thread shirts @ all. Nice quality material...but, the fit is terrible on me. And after it was washed...it was even worse. But, I only paid $10 p/shirt for 'em. And the rhinestones are still on there after washing! Again, Bella shirts fit very well. They have a short baby version & a longer one as well.
