Default Looking for a new thread to use.

I am new on here and I was wanting to know what is everyones favorite thread. I was using ARC but they sold out to Mederia. I feel a little lost now, not sure what thread to use.

Linda, Where are you located? I was using the Madiera, before Melco switched because they were a day away instead of 2-to 3 days in denver. You could search for Amann(ackerman) Gunold, Roninson Anton, Salus. Order their charts, get some samples and see how you like them.

I am in Oklahoma. How do you like the Madiera? I have an AMAYA XT and I really liked the ARC but I can't find it any where. I will have to change thread, do you know what is compatible with the ARC? I want to have the same shine too. I used the poly thread.

Madeira is great thread. Isacord is great thread. Robison-Anton is great thread.
Right now I'm testing Glide thread from Fil-Tec and so far I like it a lot.
As far as shine compared to ARC I think you will have to compare the threads side by side to decide that.
Get samples of different brands and try them on your machine. My Barudan likes the above threads but there are some brands that don't run well on it at all.
If you can make it to Ft. Worth for the Imprinted Sportswear Show you can get samples from several different thread vendors that are exhibiting there.

Jane,
I had tried the glide from fil-tec, but it didn't give the coverage madeira did. It just seemed like a lighter weight thread, but then I only tried the white and black samples they gave me. These machines can be temperamental and do decide which thread THEY want to use. I prefer Madeira, but Marathon just sent me some samples to try. Whatever you decide to try, Linda, stay away from the cheap threads. Your embroidery will suffer from it. Take Jane's advice and go to the ISS show in Ft. Worth. You can still get free admission and it is well worth the trip. We have never missed one since we started embroidery.

I too have tried the fil-tec and did not like the coverage of it. I have switched completely to madeira. You can order straight from them or from the brother mall and there pricing is the same as maderia but the shipping is less. Lisa

Linda,

EnMart sells Iris thread. We would be happy to send you sample, just PM me with your address.

Also, we've got a online thread converter which shows the Arc numbers and their Iris equivalents, so conversion is quite simple.

Just did a sample sew out with the Glide thread. Seems to give good coverage on denim with these colors.

many of you probably havent heard of Fufus but its an amazing thread.... we have used madeira...marathon...coats....wonang...brildor.... and I must say that Fufus is worth every cent.... it can be compared with madeira's quality at probably half the price.... you'll need to find out who the agent is for the USA..... we are agents for east africa so we are not allowed to sell outside our region...... good luck

Thanks Dee. I did a quick search and it looks like it's more expensive than Madeira over here. At least the three sites I looked at.

are you serious??? that is really crazy.... then you might as well go with madeira or any of the other cheaper threads others have recomended above..... dont buy a lot initially........ buy small quantities as you need and you will slowly know if the thread works for you.... if it doesnt then try the next.....

Yep, I've really never used anything but Madeira on a regular basis. When I do need a color I don't have, I buy one of the off brands locally, but none have ever done as well as Madeira. Poly X which is a brand I HAVE to use once in a while is horrible. I'll get 50 thread breaks from it to every one that I have with Madeira.

I use Robison Anton Thread along with some Filtec. The R-A is a great thread for me and it's made in the USA.

I like R-A thread. I do 99% of my ordering late at night online. The closest R-A distributor to me (in Dallas) has yet to get a website up and running so I can order from them. I've been tracking it for at least 3 years now and can't believe it is taking this long to get a functional website. When they get their act together maybe I use more R-A thread.
