Default Has anyone purchase Dakota Collectibles from their website?

I would like to purchase some designs from Dakota's website since it seems cheaper that the price I had to pay at the embroidery shop for several of those same designs. They have the licensed designs in a separate tab, so a guess I just have to avoid those.

But, does anyone one have experience buying from them, and do embroidery shops accept to embroider them if I just bring the disk? Now, their website also says the designs are allowed to be used only at one location. What does this mean? Can regular customers buy them or just embroidery shops?

First of all you're not paying for the design at the shop. You are paying for the embroidery. When you do pay for a design, Dakota or any other company, you are not buying the design itself, but rather a license to use that design at one location by the person who bought it. It cannot be given, traded, sold, etc to anyone else. You buy it, you use it. That's it. While most of us have their complete collections, which can cost us 4-5 grand, new designs do come out yearly. For those who use stock designs, this gets expensive. Your local embroiderer has spent tens of thousands of dollars for decent equipment to give you a quality product. Trust me, it's worth the money you spend with him.

If you do purchase your own designs most likely the embroiderer you use will charge you more because you purchased the designs yourself. Also, designs come in different formats. Will you contact an embroider ahead of time to find out what format they prefer? If there is a problem with the design will you be able to call Dakota Collectibles to explain what the problem is so they will edit the design? When you purchase embroidery or anything else you can't manufacture yourself you aren't just paying for designs. You also pay for equipment, order prepreparation, machine running time, operating expenses and expertise.

We don't charge people if they come in with their own DST files including Dakota Collectibles designs. We only charge people a set-up if we are actually setting up the job for them.
