Whilst looking on the Madeira website for their AFS system and any updates for my machine (PR600), I followed their link to the official AFS System website. On this site they have instructions to digitize your own badges (patches) also a lot of ready digitized templates, plus samples to download.

I used some Badge Master (heavy guage water soluble) and floated a piece of tear away stabilizer (to add extra body, but removed before the outline stitching) under the BM and stitched out one of the sample designs. The results are absolutely brilliant, no fuzzies on the edge and a very clean finished badge.

Worth a look and download of the files.

Thanks for the info. Anyone know what the AFS system sells for? Not that I do enough patches to justify it, but I'm curious.

Hi Karen, not sure what it sells at in the US but here in the UK it's around the £1000 (Gbp), you would need to do a huge number of badges to merit that cost. I just hooped the BM in my normal hoop (100mmx100mm) and tested the design that way, did the job fine.

I think you would only need the AFS System if you were planning on adding names etc. after doing a run of badges, for one offs the BM method would more than suffice.
