Do a search for I.S.S. shows,wear some good walking shoes and bring a good canvas bag for all of the handouts.

Well I just looked and it looks like the closest show coming near ny is the NBM show that will be in maryland. It doesnt appear that any are coming to new york soon but maryland isnt too far away here is a link for the show that is coming in june NBM Shows: Where People and Business Connect

I'm not sure what the closest would be but you can check out ISS New England (Rhode Island) in July
Imprinted Sportswear Shows - New England Also, there is an Atlantic City, NJ show in March. I've attended the AC show the last six years and it was particularily helpful the first few years. If you go talk to as many vendors as you can. You'll learn more and get more freebies. Take classes if you can.

Nothing to do with embroidery that I can see but you might want to look at Great Garment Graphics Seminar

There are a number of shows in the NY area in the next couple of weeks dealing with imprinted garments...
