Default Shoes??

A friend has come to me asking about Embroidery on shoes....

NE1 here know if it can be done if he provides the shoes?

He is wanting a number on the tounge and the name on the outside of the shoe..

No one here locally can do it...they said they don't have the correct set up for shoes.

Thanks,
T

It can be done but you need the frames for it.

I have seen it done on some pretty thick leather shoes. Hoops are specially made for it. Not a very big area to embroider however.

I am not sure fast frames will work. The idea of fast frames is to use a sticky backing to hold the garment. I am not sure a shoe will hold on to sticky backing.

I've done it with fast frames. As with anything large or odd shaped, you have to support the rest of the object. For shoes, I tie a string to a frame to support the shoe or clamp it on with large hair or office clips. I've done 1/4" leather before and have no problem with shoes(although it had better be a light, simple design). With jackets or heavy blankets, I put an ironing board in front of the machine to support it and also use it as additional work space

Good tip Jim. I have been considering the fast frames for a while. May spring for them now. Everyone on the Sew Forum at Yahoo Groups loves them.

Fred,
If you do order the fast frames, be sure to order them directly from fast frames because they have sizes they don't advertise anywhere else. They let you substitute sizes and can even make custom sizes for you. I opted for larger frames and just a couple of small frames instead of mostly small ones. I just have one pocket frame and then larger ones since I do a lot of bags with larger fields.
