Default Advise on Equipment

I'm looking to buy an embroidery machine from SWF
SWF 1501 Single Head Embroidery and Monogramming Machine
and wondering if this machine is really worth $13k and software(digitiging software) is another $4k. I'm new to embroidery, currently running with heatpress, and vinylcutters. And Also thinking about leasing it for 5 years.
is there a better solution, options for me with other brand/models?
at least swf has a local office near me. And do I have to use specified digitiging machine or can digitizing be done with different programs like illustrator, coreldraw? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

-i can't comment on the machine because i haven't used a swf, but i've heard its a good machine. i almost went with that machine when i was purchasing the one i have.
-yes you need digitizing software to do custom work. unless you just want to use tt fonts and stock designs then you dont' really need digitizing software.
-i hope you don't take this the wrong way because its not directed at you specifically, but at customers who ask me that question about digitizing. i have to just say this. sometimes potential customers rub me the wrong way when they find out there is a digitizing fee with custom artwork. they think its just scan, stitch its done. or they will just ask, ''what program are you using?, maybe i can do it myself.'' maybe i'm being a jerk i don't know just get annoyed by some people that think its just that simple. maybe it should be but its not. anyways good luck.

I haven't owned an SWF but did check them out carefully when I did buy. I went with Tajima instead but I think SWF makes a good machine although switching over to do hats was an issure but maybe that problem has been improved in the last few years?

Illustrator & Corel are artwork programs that are separate from digitizing software. You can create the artwork in either of these problems & then import it into digitizing software if your embroidery software will except vector files. Otherwise you'll have to save out to a bitmap file & use that as a template for digitizing. Its helpful to have at least basic digitizing but not absolutely necessary. You can contract out your logos to a digitizer. It takes at least 2 years of concertrated study to become a good digitizer. You may decide that just being able to edit designs is all you need. Some people start with editing software & then later upgrade to digitizing if they decide they need it.

I have as SWF1501C, I did not have the room for the full size machine. The price for the machine is very reasonable. I did not get the full software package. I just got editing, there is way too much to learn when starting out embroidering. Learn to embroider first, send out your designs to be digitized, then when you know what you are doing check out all of the different software programs. There is an SWF yahoo group that is very helpful on the machines. I am very satisfed with my machine, no mechanical problems and service is very good handling the dumb questions from newbies.
