I need help to improve my lame site. I really want to keep it simple but aesthetically pleasing and functional. My main interest is what should the home page look like.

Looks like your site is coming along. Visit some other sites to get ideas. Just be patient and a design/feel will come to you.
One suggestion, You might not want to slash out your retail price, and put a lower price underneath. It gives the impression you do not value your product, and are having a hard time selling it at the regular price.

Huh? didnt think of that. I thought that if you saw a sale you felt more compelled but I now see your point of veiw.

Changing it now!
You should only have a sale on designs that have been on your site for quite some time, 2 or 3 months at the least. This will at least give your customers the impression that it did well while it lasted, but now you're just trying to sell off the last remaining few that are in stock. You may even want to tell your customers something to that effect. For example, a clearance sale, etc
