Default Do I need a merchants a account using Shopify.com

I am almost positive I do need a merchnats account with shopify but I wanted to be sure. If so which is the cheapest, I'm on a strict budget. Thanks.

Paypal is an option with shopify.

I wouldn't touch Paypal just read the message boards on Ebay. Very Very soon Paypal will be no longer. They are in a lot of HOT Water.

Your best bet and cheapest is Google Checkout. Does not cost you a cent to get merchant account and the fees are the lowest in the industry.

Also very simple to set-up. Not sure if Shopify takes it but my bet is they do.

that is not true. paypal is not going under. People created websites like paypalsucks.com because their accounts got frozen for PROBABLY doing things that were against their terms of service! I have had a paypal website payments pro account for 3 year now, and i love it. Its easy to do refunds, track purchased, etc and even though monthly it was a little more costly, the upfront cost was cheaper, and thats what i needed at the time..Also, it was SUPER easy to integrate and having thepro account gives the customers the option to pay right on my website just like a merchant account OR go to paypal and pay there

Personally, googlecheckout has always been annoying to me. You need to fill out and account before checking out most of the times, and i personally dont like it.

I was one of the 5000 accounts that got broken into and 4k stolen out of account and after 4 months Paypal still has not given it back. Fortunately an attorney was one of the accounts and we are in litigation now with Paypal. Paypal got in a lot of trouble because they are not a bank so lots of penalties going on. I think a total of 237k was stolen. Drop in a bucket to Paypal, but they don't want to give any ones money back. They just keep delaying. Funny thing they contacted to settle out of court but now everyone involved wants them to pay.

That is scary, they had my SS# DL and I thought they were good until this happened.

As far as going down probably not but their business practices are very poor.

I like Google as well as my customers. I have done over 30,000 transactions with them and don't have to worry about someone going in and stealing my money because it automatically transfers to my Bank Account and there I am FDIC insured. PLUS Google is much cheaper than Paypal.

Ebay fought hard to keep Google out because it would have ruined Paypal because their fees are lower.

Whomever you choose you should be aware of all fees and things that could potentially happen.

As a small business it is always best to go with the business that has good rates and low risk.

Good luck in your decision...
