Does anyone here use Yahoo Stores as their platform? Pros? Cons? Can you make your own site and not use their templates? How is their cart? How do you get paid from them? Any help would be much appreciated.
Scott
I've used it for both of my sites and have been satisfied with it.
From what I understand, if you are proficient in HTML or RTML (don't ask me the difference...lol) then you can customize the site much more than I have done using their templates.
I've used them for the ability to quickly and easily put a site up with decent functionality and appeal. You can integrate it with your own merchant provider and shopping cart or just use Paypal like I do.

I am about 80% sure that you can not do too much customization with yahoo stores. They dont have "templates" but they have a specific layout that you basically have to stick with.
I also think that your ability to add "extras" to your site is limited. Like, what if you wanted to offer a frequent buyer points system? Or a referal system for your customers? What about wishlists and stuff? I know yahoo has some addons, but NOTHING like what you can do with opensource carts.. and those are free.
If you have a web designer, you will be MUCH better off going with open source, because you wont have a learning curve. Personally, if your guys has experience, i suggest oscommerce. it has a LOAD of addons and a lot of ability for improvement
I have dabbled in OSCommerce, and find it laborious to edit, etc. We are up in the air with where we want to take our site and designs. Right now we are making the site as a subdomain before publishing it as a domain name. Thanks
Scott
oscommerce is a lot of work to get it from it's stock look to its prime look, but there are SOOO many snippets of pre programmed code that makes it a lot easier to do than you would think.. and if you have some basic knowledge, you can get through it.. I started with NO knowledge, i just knew how to do some html links and basic stufff, but i jumped right into php and know i'd like to say, i'm pretty darn good..
