Hi. Dreamweaver allows you to construct both static and dynamic web pages. By dynamic, it means a page that actually does something, such as an interactive component. It works with all the major web programming languages, html, php, asp, coldfusion etc. You can create and modify templates very easily. It will automate most of the complex tasks for you and allow you to rapidly build world class sites.
Dreamweaver is used extensively by professional web site developers. You can download an evaluation copy of Dreamweaver from the Macromedia site.
Hi Dan. I'm not going to say that you'll be up and running in an hour, as it is a very comprehensive piece of software, that will do some pretty amazing things.
The one advantage you do have is its popularity. This means there are many forums and support groups out there, as well as lots of free tutorials on numerous web sites. Third part developers have created 'add ons' to extend the range of the product, many of which are free. There are also some great books and training dvd's available.
The learning curve really does depend on the complexity of the sites you want to build. For very simple sites use a dtp sysytem like publisher, but if you want your site to actually do something, then programs like Dreamweaver will automate many of the tasks for you and save you an immense amount of development time.
Where did you get the template from? What file format is it in?
The more specific information you can give us, the better we can help you
Ditto! I mean if its a CMS type template (Wordpress/ Joomla etc), and you dont want functionality hacks - it could well be as simple as altering the images in the "images folder' resaving them with the exact same name and pixel dimensions. (We did that for a site recently)
Also -as mentioned above, don't expect to be building/ altering websites in a few hours with Dreamweaver - it's a beautiful app, but has quite a steep learning curve. (As an ex designer, turned marketing dude - i get frustrated whenever i see "Oh i have a copy of photoshop, how hard can it be?" - obviously some of that depends on how tech savvy you are too. (And if you can click the bevel and lens flare buttons in photoshop LOL)
look forward to hearing more about what you want to achieve
