Default making the swith from PayPal to other shopping cart

I'm considering changing from PayPal to one of the other shopping carts (zen cart, cube, etc.) but am hesitant because PayPal handles everything for me including CC processing, shipping, etc. all in an easy format. If I switch to another cart, won't I have to figure out new ways to do all this?

Not really. Actually, the other shopping carts usually make it easier and are more flexible with the different options.

Even if you use cubecart, you can still process payments through PayPal and you can still use the PayPal shipping.

The "real" shopping carts make the shopping process and the customer management process much easier for both you and your customers.

Yes, but it is nothing more than settings in the cart you decide on. Pretty much the same way you set up paypal.

Why are you switching? Some of these carts can incorporate paypal processing too.

I was unaware of that to tell you the truth. I have always been with PayPal from the beginning and didn't do too much research outside of that ...OOOPPSS! What would you guys recommend as the best/user friendly cart both free and not?

You can find my opinion in LOTS of those other posts. That's part of the reason why I pointed you there. So I don't have to type the same thing over and over

I hear great things about Zen and OS but you can get a great cart w/ customer service starting around $35 per month. As for PayPal . . . the less you depend on it the better. I was in the same boat. I did not look outside of paypal because I have been using it on eBay since 99 or 2000. For a website its a GREAT add on but there are cheaper, and BETTER options.

Also look into Google checkout. Rates are a little lower, you can earn adword credits and and best of all it is very secure.

how difficult is it to set up one of the free carts like zen, cube, or OS? I believe Rodney stated that I could use both in tandom. How does this work?

I'm not sure what you mean by "in tandem", but it's pretty easy to setup the free carts.

Some web hosts (like LunarPages) have one click installations for most of the free shopping carts.

Otherwise, it's just a matter of following the step by step instructions provided when you download the software.
